충남 청양지역 불교문화재 연구 현황과 과제

국문 초록

영세한 문헌자료만으로 청양군의 문화사를 온전하게 이해하기에는 역부족이다. 이런 한계를 극복할 수 있는 대안으로 주목되는 것이 불교문화재이다. 청양군의 불교문화재는 수량이 많지는 않으나 문화사적인 측면에서 의의가 큰 작품들이 많다. 본의리 출토 소조불상대좌나 장곡사 금동약사여래좌상, 운장암 금동보살좌상은 선행연구가 이루어졌지만, 새로운 측면의 연구가 진행될 필요가 있으며 지금까지 본격적으로 연구되지 못한 청양 석조삼존불상이나 장곡사 상대웅전과 그 내부에 봉안된 철조불상들, 석조대좌, 목조광배 등에 대해서도 활발한 논의가 필요하다. 이런 연구가 이루어진다면 청양군의 역사문화적 의의를 밝히는 중요한 성과가 될 것임은 물론이고 더 나아가 우리나라 불교미술사를 이해하는데도 기여할 수 있을 것이라고 본다. 이런 새로운 관점의 연구를 진행하기 위한 발굴조사와 문헌자료 조사 등의 체계적인 학술조사가 이루어지고, 불교문화재의 원형이나 제작연대를 밝힐 수 있는 과학적인 조사방법도 병행되어 청양군을 역사문화사적 의의가 규명되고 그를 활용하는 다양한 사업이 시행되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The small amount of literature materials alone is inadequate to understand the cultural history of Cheongyang-gun. Buddhist cultural assets are attracting attention as an alternative that can overcome the limitation as such. Although the number of Buddhist cultural assets in Cheongyang-gun is not large, there are many works that are highly significant in terms of cultural history. Although previous studies have been conducted on the clay Buddhist statue pedestal excavated at Bonui-ri, the gilt-bronze seated Bhaisajyaguru statue at Janggoksa Temple, and the gilt-bronze seated Bodhisattva statue at Unjangam, but studies from a new perspective are necessary and active discussions are necessary for the Stone Buddha Triad in Cheongyang, the Upper Daeungjeon Hall at Janggoksa Temple, and the iron Buddha statues, stone pedestals, and wooden mandoras enshrined in it. If such studies are conducted, important achievements revealing the historical and cultural significance of Cheongyang-gun will be made and furthermore, the findings will contribute to the understanding of the history of Buddhist art in Korea. It is expected that systematic academic research, such as excavation and literature research intended to conduct research from the new perspective as such will be conducted in combination with scientific research methods that can reveal the original form or production date of Buddhist cultural assets so that the historical and cultural significance of Cheongyang-gun will be identified and various projects utilizing it will be implemented.
