국문 초록

이 글은 이상의 일본어 시 번역 시집 “영원한 가설”의 발간을 기해, 기존 번역의 오류를 짚고, 기존 번역과의 차이를 바탕으로 번역의 특징을 검토한 것이다. 이상의 일본어 시 번역은 1956년 임종국 주도로 편찬된 고대문학회 편 “이상 전집”에 처음으로 수록되었으며, 유정과 임종국에 의해 번역되었다. 두 사람의 번역은 번역자의 적극적인 의역이 가미된 것으로, 이후 발간된 모든 전집은 이 번역을 저본으로 삼고 있다. 이 글에서는 이상이 활용한 동일한 어휘를 다르게 번역하거나, 다른 어휘를 동일하게 번역하는 등 두 사람의 번역은 교차 검증이 이루어지지 않은 상태임을 확인하였다. 또한 동사와 형용사를 중심으로 번역의 차이를 밝히고, 원문에 근거하여 그 타당성을 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 기존의 번역이 지닌 문제점을 환기하고, 두 번역자의 주관에 의해 원문이 오역될 여지가 있는 번역에 대해서는 재검토의 과정이 필요함을 입증하였다.

영문 초록

On the publication of Yi Sang's Japanese poetry translation collection, Eternal Hypothesis, this article points out errors in existing translations and examines the characteristics of translation based on differences from existing translations. The Japanese translation of Yi Sang's poems was first included in Complete Works of Yi Sang in the edition of the Korea University Literary Society, which was compiled in 1956 by the lead of Im Jong-guk and translated by Yoo Jung and Im Jong-guk. Their translation reflects the subjectivity of the translator, and all of the later published works are based on this translation. The findings in this article confirmed that the two people's translations were not cross-validated, as evidenced by such cases where the two people translated the same word used by Yi Sang in his poem differently or the other words used by Yi Sang in his poem into the same word. The differences in their translations were also revealed focusing on verbs and adjectives, and the validity was considered based on the original Yi Sang's poem. Considering the problems of existing translations, this article suggests that the process of reexamination is necessary for translations in which the original text to be misinterpreted by the subjectivity of the two translators.
