학습 공동체와 국어 교사의 실천적 지식

국문 초록

목적: 이 연구는 교사 학습 공동체로서 ‘배움의 공동체’를 실천하는 국어 교사들의 배움의 공동체 실천과 그 실천에 통합되어 있는 지식을 탐구하는 것이다. 방법: 이를 위해 배움의 공동체와 교사의 실천적 지식에 대하여 검토하고 4명의 국어 교사와의 면담, 배움의 공동체 연구회 참여 관찰을 통한 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 결과: 이들의 배움의 공동체 실천은 자신의 수업 실천을 중심으로 학교, 지역, 전국연구회, 외부 강의와 수업 연구 컨설팅으로 중층화되어 있었으며 서로 영향을 주고받으며 교사의 지식을 강화해가고 있다. 이러한 실천 속에 교사 자신, 교육과정, 교과 내용, 교수·학습, 학교 교육환경에 대한 지식이 ‘원리’의 형태로 내면화되어 있었다. 특히 수업 활동지와 수업 영상은 교사 개인의 실천을 공동체적 실천으로 연결하고 확장하는 매개로 기능하고 있다. 결론: 이들은 공공성을 바탕으로 개별 교사, 교과의 경계를 넘어 교사의 실천에 담긴 지식을 공동체의 지식과 신념으로 확장해 감으로써 한국 사회의 오랜 개인주의적인 교직 문화를 바꾸어 가기 위해 도전하고 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the practices and knowledge of Korean language teachers practicing ‘School as Learning Community’. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted by reviewing the literature on School as Learning Community and teachers’ practical knowledge, interviewing four Korean language teachers, and observing their participation in a School as Learning Community study group. Results: Their School as Learning Community practices were layered around their own classroom practices, and included school, regional, and national research conferences, external lectures, and lesson study consulting. Each of these practices feeds into the other and strengthens teachers’ knowledge. In particular, classroom activity sheets and classroom videos have served as a medium for connecting and expanding individual teachers’ practices into collective practices. In these practices, teachers’ knowledge of ‘self’, ‘curriculum’, ‘subject matter’, ‘instruction’, and ‘the milieu of schooling’ were internalized in the form of ‘practical principle’. Conclusion: The teachers are challenging to change the long- standing individualistic culture of teaching profession in Korean society by expanding the knowledge contained in teachers’ practices beyond the boundaries of individual teachers and departments into the knowledge and beliefs of the community based on publicness.
