국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 신입생의 대학생활 적응에 5가지 성격요인이 미치는 영향이 성별에 따라 다른지 알아보고자 실시되었다. 즉, 신입생의 성별에 따라 5가지 성격요인이 대학생활 적응에 영향을 미치는 데 차이가 있을 것이라는 가정을 확인하여 결과에 따른 대응 방안을 찾는 것이 목적이다. 방법 이를 위해 경기도에 있는 K대학 신입생을 대상으로 성격5요인검사(Big Five Inventory: BFI)와 대학생활적응검사(Student Adjustment Test: SAT)를 실시하여 수집된 1,146명의 자료를 SPSS 통계프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다. 결과 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성격5요인의 영향은 남학생 대비 여학생이 ‘개방성’과 ‘외향성’, ‘신경증’이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 대학생활적응의 영향은 남학생에 비해 여학생이 ‘대학생활전념의지’와 ‘주변으로부터의 지지’가 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 성격5요인이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향을 보면, 대학생활적응의 대부분 하위요인에서 성별에 따른 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났지만, 경제적여건은 성별 모두 통계적으로 유의한 영향이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구 결과를 반영하여 성별에 따른 대학생활적응에 미치는 성격5요인의 영향에 대한 시사점을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aimed to investigate whether the influence of the five personality traits on freshmen's college adjustment differs according to gender. The main objective was to confirm any differences in how the five personality traits affect college adjustment based on freshmen's gender and to find corresponding strategies according to the results. Methods To accomplish this, 1,146 freshmen from K University in Gyeonggi Province underwent the Big Five Inventory (BFI) for personality assessment and the Student Adjustment Test (SAT) for college adjustment assessment. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical program. Results The primary findings of the study are as follows: Firstly, compared to male students, female students showed higher levels of 'Openness,' 'Extraversion,' and 'Neuroticism' among the Big Five personality traits. Secondly, in terms of college adjustment, female students exhibited higher levels of 'Commitment to College Life' and 'Support from Surroundings' compared to male students. Thirdly, regarding the impact of the Big Five personality traits on college adjustment, gender differences were observed in most sub-factors of college adjustment, except for economic conditions, which did not show statistically significant differences based on gender. Conclusions Based on the findings of this study, recommendations were made concerning the implications of the influence of the Big Five personality traits on college adjustment according to gender.
