국문 초록

분묘 연구는 다양한 고고학 연구 분야 가운데에서도 전통성, 보수성, 계통성 등이 특히 강조되는 분야이다. 이에 분묘 연구의 기초적인 작업으로 무덤의 구조와 출토유물 등을 통한 정형성과 계통성 파악이 주로 이뤄진다. 그 결과, 이러한 연구 관점에서 벗어난 경우는 특이한 사례로 분류되어 평가되고 해석에 곤란을 겪는 경우가 종종 있다. 이 글은 전통적인 모습에서 벗어난 분묘를 어떻게 평가하고 이해할 것인지에 대한 인식의 다변화를 위해 작성되었다. 전통에서 벗어난 것이 혁신인지 일탈인지 혹은 또 다른 모습인지 이해해보고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 조사 사례가 많고 연구 성과가 많이 축적된 신라 분묘 가운데 특이하다고 할만한 5가지 분묘의 사례를 들어 검토를 시도하였다. 이들은 전통적인 장법에서 벗어나거나, 출현 동기를 정확히 알 수 없는 상황에서 돌연 나타난 이질적인 묘제들이다. 분묘의 보수성과 계통성을 지나치게 의식한 나머지 특수하거나 특이한 사례로만 이해하고, 다각도의 접근이 이뤄지지 못하였다. 이를 극복하기 위해서는 분묘의 특성에서 전통 외에도 다양성과 유연성을 인식하고, 구조와 출토유물에 대한 1차 분석을 넘어 무덤과 관련된 사람과 무덤 축조 당시의 정치ㆍ사회환경에 대한 복합적인 접근이 이뤄져야 함을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

The study of graves is a field in which traditionalism, conservatism, systemicity, etc., are most emphasized among various fields of archaeological research. The fundamental work of the study on graves is mainly concerned with identifying the form and systemicity through the structure of graves and excavated relics. As a result, cases that diverge from such research ARE categorized and evaluated as special cases, causing difficulty in their interpretations. This paper was written to diversify recognition, discussing how unconventional graves should be evaluated and understood. The objective is to understand whether an untraditional grave is an innovation, a deviation, or just another form. A review was attempted on 5 types of graves considered unique among the Silla graves in which much research and investigation cases have accumulated. These graves are different in nature, either buried unconventionally or appeared out of the blue in a situation with unknown motives. Due to being excessively aware of the conservatism and systemicity of graves, they were only understood as special or unique cases, and a multifaceted approach could not be taken. It was emphasized that to overcome this, diversity and flexibility should be recognized as the characteristics of graves in addition to traditionalism and that a complex approach has to be fulfilled on the individuals related to the graves and the political and social environment at the time the graves were built, beyond the primary analysis of the structure and excavated relics.
