장애 자녀를 둔 부모의 자조모임 관련 연구 동향

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 장애 자녀를 둔 부모 자조모임을 다룬 국내외 선행연구들을 선정하여 지금까지 이루어진 자조모임의 성격과 성과를 분석하고, 그 결과를 토대로 향후 부모 자조모임의 방향성을 제시하고 자조모임 활성화를 위한 시사점을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 최근 20년간 발표된 논문 중 장애 자녀를 둔 부모나 주 양육자의 자조모임을 다룬 17편의 논문을 대상으로 자조모임의 성격 및 성과를 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 17편의 논문 중 양적연구는 4편, 질적연구는 13편으로 질적연구의 수가 세 배 이상 많았다. 둘째, 4편의 양적연구에서 보고된 자조모임의 대표적인 성과는 부모의 양육스트레스 감소와 가족 삶의 질 향상이었다. 셋째, 13편의 질적연구에서 장애 자녀의 부모들은 자조모임을 통해 각자의 어려움을 나누고 서로에게 정서적 지지를 제공하였으며, 이 과정에서 자신감이 향상되어 다른 부모를 지원하는 모습이 공통적으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 국내 자조모임의 방향성 및 활성화 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study systematically analyzed domestic and foreign studies on self-help groups for parents of children with disabilities. This is performed in order to examine the characteristics and outcomes of parent self-help groups and to not only suggest directions for self-help groups in future, but also showcase implications for supporting these groups. A total of 17 articles dealing with self-help groups for parents or caregivers of children with disabilities published over the past 20 years were selected and analyzed in terms of overall research trends, characteristics, and outcomes of self-help groups. The results are as follows. First, four were quantitative studies and 13 were qualitative studies. The number of qualitative studies is more than three times higher than that of quantitative studies. Second, the most representative outcomes of self-help groups reported in four quantitative studies were the reduction of parenting stress and improvement of the quality of family life. Third, in 13 qualitative studies, parents shared their difficulties through self-help groups and provided emotional support to each other. During the process, parents gained confidence and began to support other parents who had similar difficulties. Based on these results, the directions and revitalization plan for self-help groups for parents of children with disabilities in Korea were proposed.
