영문 초록

This study examines Korean novels and short stories translated into English and published abroad by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea over the last two decades. LTI Korea was founded in March 2001 with the purpose of promoting Korean literature abroad. Over the past two decades, it has provided support for the translation and publication of Korean literary works, aiming to achieve the globalization of Korean literature. The primary goal of this study is to trace the evolving representation of Korea through these translations. The analysis covers the quantity of translated books, authors, original publication years in Korea, and thematic content within the English publications over the past 20 years. By dividing the 2001 to 2020 period into three phases, this research explores how the themes of Korean literary works translated into English changed over time. The identified themes within these translated works encompass political discourse, social criticism, introspection, feminism, and experimental storytelling. The findings reveal that translated Korean literature initially emphasized political and societal issues but gradually evolving into themes of personal reflection and experimental narratives.
