텍스트마이닝을 활용한 일본 웹소설 일고찰

국문 초록

2000년대 이후 정립된 개념으로서의 웹소설이란 일반적으로 ‘웹소설 투고 플랫폼에 투고된 소설’을 말한다. 2010년대 본격적으로 그 존재감을 드러내기 시작한 웹소설은 코로나19 유행을 배경으로 그 시장이 크게 성장했다. 그러나 이에 대한 일본 웹소설 조사 및 연구는 전무하다. 이에 본 연구는 코로나19 ‘팬데믹’ 시기와 그 전후 2년의 <소설가가 되자> 소설 496,505개 작품을 대상으로 파이썬을 활용한 텍스트마이닝 분석을 실행하였다. 첫 게재 일시 분석을 통한 투고수 변화, 장르 분포 분석을 통한 시기별 선호 장르의 흐름, 키워드 빈도 분석을 통해 웹소설 장르 및 주제의 변화, 줄거리에 사용된 단어 빈도 분석을 통해 팬데믹 시기의 웹소설과 그 전후 사이의 변화를 파악하고자 했다. 분석 결과, 일본 웹소설은 ‘팬데믹’을 거쳐 그 규모가 확장되었는데 그 확장에는 여성 이용자들의 유입이 있었다. 그 배경에는 이미 많은 통계자료가 밝힌, 일본 여성들이 마주한 잔혹한 현실이 있다. ‘팬데믹’의 영향은 여성에게 더욱 험난하게 작용했고 이것이 ‘팬데믹’ 시기 집에서 보내는 시간이 늘면서 웹에서 이야기를 통해 위로를 받고자 하는 웹소설로의 유입으로 이어진 것이다. 일본 웹소설은 그동안 ‘이세계물’로 대표되는 남성향 작품이 주목을 받았지만 본 연구의 시도는 더 이상 일본 웹소설 연구에 있어 여성향 작품을 시야에서 배제할 수 없음을 알려준다. 이러한 여성향 작품에 대한 구체적인 분석과 함께, 텍스트마이닝을 본고가 시도한 메타데이터 분석 이외에도 다양한 방식으로 적용할 연구방법론에 대한 고민을 추후 과제로 남겨둔다. 타 플랫폼에도 적용할 수 있는 텍스트마이닝 연구방법을 도입해 추후 일본 웹소설 전체를 다루는 연구가 필요하다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

The Web novels, as a concept established since the 2000s, generally refer to ‘Novels submitted to web novel platforms’. Web novels, which began to show their presence in earnest in the 2010s, have grown significantly in the market against the backdrop of the COVID-19 epidemic. However, there is no Japanese web novel research on this. In this regard, this study conducted text mining analysis using Python for 496,505 novels of during the COVID-19 pandemic and two years before and after that. Changes in the number of submissions through analysis of the first publication date, trend of preferred genres by period through analysis of genre distribution, changes in web novel genres and themes through keyword frequency analysis, and word frequency analysis used in the plot to identify changes between web novels during the pandemic and before and after it. As a result of the analysis, the size of Japanese web novels has expanded through the ‘pandemic’, and there was an influx of female users in the expansion. In the background, there is a cruel reality that Japanese women face, which has already been revealed by many statistics. The influence of the ‘pandemic’ was more harsh on women, and this led to an influx of web novels to receive comfort through stories on the web as the time spent at home during the ‘pandemic’ increased. In Japanese web novels, male-oriented works, represented by ‘Isekai(異世界)’, have received attention, but the attempt of this study informs that female-oriented works can no longer be excluded from the field of view in Japanese web novel research. In addition to the detailed analysis of these women-oriented works, in addition to the metadata analysis attempted in this paper, the consideration of research methodologies to be applied in various ways is left as a future task. It is believed that it is necessary to introduce a text mining research method that can be applied to other platforms and study the entire Japanese web novel in the future.
