국문 초록

송만갑 명창의 출생지 관련 자료를 보면, ‘구례 출생설’과 ‘순천 출생설’이 공존하고 있다. 이는 판소리 명창의 신분적 특수성에서 기인하는 현상이다. 여러 자료 가운데 제적등본 기록과 부친 송우룡의 거주지 관련 기록의 증거력이 가장 높다고 판단한다. 송만갑 명창은 구례에서 출생했으며, 부인 박태윤을 비롯하여 장남 송영덕 등 가족들은 별도로 순천 낙안에 거주하고 있었고, 1918년 송만갑 명창이 주거지 주소를 순천 낙안으로 옮겼을 가능성이 가장 큰 것으로 보인다. 송만갑 명창 출생지를 둘러싸고 異說이 제기되고 있는 현실의 이면에는 해당 지역의 관심사 혹은 이해관계가 자리 잡고 있다. 판소리 명창의 출생지 논의가 학술적 차원에서만 이루어지는 것이 아니라 지역문화 발전을 기대하는 열망과 맞물려 있는 경우, 기록 자료를 취사선택하거나 아전인수격으로 해석하는 태도를 경계해야 한다. 명창의 출생지 논의와 관련하여 관점의 전환이 필요하다. 출생지는 곧 고향을 의미하며, 이는 일차적으로 생물학적 출생지를 뜻한다. 고향은 개인의 성장을 규정하는 환경적 조건이 된다는 점에서 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 그렇지만 개인사에서 생물학적 고향 못지 않게 중요한 의미를 갖는 제2, 제3의 고향이 얼마든지 있을 수 있다. 전승론의 문제를 해명하는 일 뿐만 아니라 예술세계를 조명하는 데 있어 명창의 출생지를 확증하는 문제가 매우 중요한 연구과제이기는 하나, 학문적 차원을 넘어 지역간 이해관계가 얽힌 현실 맥락 속에서 이 문제를 해명하고자 한다면 객관성을 상실한 결론에 도달할 가능성이 매우 높다. 구례와 순천은 출생지로서든 성장지 혹은 활동지로서든 송만갑 명창과의 연관이 매우 밀접한 지역임에 틀림없다. 21세기 판소리 문화의 활성화에 기여하는 방향에서 송만갑 명창의 출생지 논의가 전개될 때 생산적인 결론에 이를 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

There are two different theories about Master-singer Song, Mangab's birthplace,― the Theory of Gurye birth and the Theory of Soonchon birth― and both come from recorded materials. Ambiguousness of those two is caused by the chracteristics of Pansori singer's origin. Among multiple data records, a copy of the resident resistration and a records about his father Song, Wooryong's place of residence are considered as the most dependable research material. It seems most likely that the whole family including Song, Mangab's wife Pak, Taeyun and his elder son Song, Yungduk was living in Nagan, Soonchon although he had born in Gurye, and Song, Mangap had moved into the residential address Nagan, Soonchon in 1918. In the inside, these different theories surrounding Master-singer Song, Mangab's birthplace are based on local interests and economical condition. It is highly demanded avoiding arbitrary selection of records and selfish explanation when the issue of Master-singer's birthplace is not treated as a scholarship but related desires for local development. The viewpoint of discussion master-singer's birthplace is needed to change. The birthplace means home and it is primarily biological place of birth. The birthplace has important implications because it is the environmental conditions that governs the personal growth, but individually second or third birthplace can be exist that has important meaning alike biological place of birth. Identification of Master-singer's birthplace is very important research project for explaining the issue of Tradition-theory, as well as to illuminating the artistic activities, but if you want to explain it not by scholarship but by realities which entangled local interests, you will be likely to reach the conclusions that lost the objectivity. The association of Gurye and Sunchon should be highly related with a Master-singer Song, Mangap whether it is the place of birth, the growth place or the field of activity. The discussion of Pansori Master-singer Song, Mangap's birthplace will be able to reach a productive conclusion, when it is discussed in direction of activation for the 21st century Pansori culture.
