영문 초록

This study investigated how both L2 learner groups with different mother tongues (Chinese, English) acquire the fluency factors of the target language (Korean) longitudinally. It was expected that the effect of L2 learners’ mother tongue was involved in the fluency judgement process. Thirtythree subjects with different L1 groups (English, Chinese) and with similar years of learning (1yr, 2yrs) participated in the experiments, along with seven native Korean speakers as a control group. The results show that the L1 background language and L2 learning duration exhibit dissimilar influence on the acquisition of the L2 fluency. More precisely, the L1 effect has been decreased in its effect on fluency judgement, while the learning duration has been increased in the later stage, in which they achieved around 40 to 50 percent of fluency ratings in two years. Also, both independent effects trigger an uneven influence on Korean native speakers’ judging the fluency; speech rate appears to be one of the most influential cues.
