백석 시에 형상화된 백색 이미지와 음양오행의 상징성 연구

국문 초록

백석은 일제강점기 민중의 삶을 민족어로 시화하면서, 실존의 고통과 초월의 문제를 통찰한 시인이다. 그는 삶의 아포리아에 맞서는 순수한 시심을 전통과 모더니즘을 융합한 방법론으로 형상화하여, 한국의 시사에서 개성적인 위치를 차지하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 백석의 시에 형상화된 백색 이미지를 음양오행의 관점에서 상상력의 근원과 상징적 의미를 탐색하였다. 백석의 시에 형상화된 백색 이미지는 세속적 욕망 또는 비극적 운명에 대항하는 신성하고 순정한 ‘생명’을 표상한다. 백석의 시에 형상화된 백색 이미지와 음양오행의 상징성은 ｢선우사｣―청정한 친구와 교감하는 순정한 생명의 합일, ｢백화｣―영원한 고향 ‘백화’에서 울려 퍼지는 생명의 화음, ｢국수｣―고담하고 소박한 국수, 민중의 감고를 관통하는 생명의 향연, ｢힌 바람벽이 있어｣―고독한 운명을 뚫고 고결하게 날아오르는 생명의 열락 등으로 해석되었다. 백석에게 있어서 백색 이미지는 자존과 견인불발의 정신으로 구극의 아름다움을 지향하는 원형성을 지닌다. 백석은 우리 민족에게 수장되어 있던 백색의 원형성을 끌어내 자신의 생동적인 상상력을 형상화했다. 백색의 상상력을 통해 실존의 고투를 뚫고 고결하게 날아오르는 생명의 열락을 구가했던 것이다. 과도한 발전과 팽창으로 번화의 소용돌이에 휩쓸려 있는 이 시대에, 백석의 시에 표현된 백색 이미지는 조열의 불균형을 정화시키는 서늘한 교감과 치유의 체험으로 이끈다.

영문 초록

Baek Suk described the life of the Korean public during the Japanese colonial era. He aesthetically improved the value of the Korean language and also had an insight of the meaning of existence and transcendence through his poems. I judged that Baek Suk embodies his inner world, moreover the Korean public’s life and cultures through white image and that is why I decided to focus on color symbolism, especially white image of his poem in this study through Yin-Yang and Five-elements. Yin-Yang and Five-elements symbolizes one viewpoint of the Korean collective unconscious in Korean literature’s history. I created a common system of Yin-Yang and Five-elements in this study to understand Baek Suk’s poems. Through the system, I explored the origin of imagination and symbolism in white image in his poems. The symbolism of Yin-Yang and Five-elements and white image in Baek Suk’s poems are interpreted as ｢The poem from white friends on dinner table｣―Sharing the union of life with innocent friend, ｢White birch tree｣―The harmony of life on white birch tree where the place is in heart, ｢Noodles｣―Plain and simple white noodles, the festival of life that penetrates the Korean public’s joys and sorrows, ｢Facing the white wall｣―The delight of life which is overcoming lonely destiny and flying up to sky as a noble and sacred. The white image is the origin of inspiration and the motivation causing imagination for him. Baek Suk inspired himself with noble and pure energy through embodying white image in his poem and also transcending lonely destiny to sacred harmony. From a Yin-Yang and Five-elements point of view, I wish this study which explored white image in Baek Suk’s poems can extend to convergent theory of culture and art.
