희곡에서 영화로 확장된 ‘木蘭’ 고사 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 1939년부터 1964년도까지 제작된 ‘목란’ 영화를 대상으로 영화에서 나타나는 서사의 변형과 주제의식을 고찰하였다. 이 시기에 만들어진 영화들은 대체로 희곡의 영향을 받았다. 京劇에서 영화로 제작된 <木蘭從軍>(1939), 豫劇에서 영화로 제작된 <花木蘭>(1956), 黃梅調에서 영화로 제작된 <花木蘭>(1964) 영화가 이에 해당한다. 이러한 이야기는 그 시대가 처한 독특한 상황을 영화에 그대로 반영하고 있다. 이들 영화의 서사 변형과 주제를 고찰한다는 것은 당시의 시대적 상황을 살펴보는 것을 의미한다. 목란 서사는 다양한 주제와 형식으로 발전할 수 있는 확장성을 가지고 있으며, 각 시대적 상황에 따라 서사에 탄력적으로 반응하고 있다. 「목란시」에서 희곡으로, 다시 영화로 만들어지는 과정에서 「목란시」의 ‘비어있는’ 공간이 풍부한 상상력을 발휘한 희곡과 영화로 개작되는 것을 살펴보았다. 그리고 京劇, 豫劇, 黃梅調가 영화로 개작되는 과정에서 시대적 상황이 영화의 서사에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지, 또 어떠한 주제로 변형, 확장되어왔는지, 주인공 목란은 어떻게 변해왔는지, 서사구조를 통하여 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

This study considered the narrative transformation and theme of being shown in a movie targeting the Mulan(木蘭) story films that had been produced from 1939 to 1964. The movies, which were made in this period, were influenced mostly by Chinese opera(戲曲). These films include (1939), which was made into a movie from Beijing opera(京劇), (1956), which was produced into a film from Henan Opera(豫劇), and (1964), which was made into a movie from Huangmei Opera(黃梅調). The story that the reason for the service in a war by a maiden dressed up as a man originated from the filial affection for replacing his elderly father is the content that cannot be often seen in other traditional plays, thereby having further aroused curiosity among the public. And this story is reflecting the unique situation faced by that era in the movie as it is. What inquires into the narrative transformation and theme in these movies implies to examine the situation of the times. Mulan’s narrative is having expandability to develop into various themes and formats and is responding flexibly to the narratives according to the situation of each era. The consideration of the narrative structure in Mulan story films led to having examined which influence the periodical situation had upon a narrative, with which theme it had been transformed and expanded, and also how heroine Mulan had changed.
