국문 초록

본 논문은 먼저 역사와 문학, 통시와 공시, 저자, 텍스트, 독자 사이의 긴장과 협력을 추구해왔던 세 가지 사례들을 살펴보고, 방법론적 지평 융합의 가능성을 탐색한다. 동시에, 그간 기존의 성서 연구의 중요한테제였던 논리적 연속성, 정합성이라는 믿음에 대한 질문을 제기하며, 이러한 믿음에는 근대 계몽주의적 이성관에 배경한 글쓰기와 글 읽기에 배경하고 있으며, 이러한 관점이 고대 이스라엘의 성서 형성에 적합하지 않을 수 있다고 지적한다. 인간의 사고와 언어는 몸과 환경을 통한 경험 속에서 형성되며, 이 과정에서 인간은 모순을 무의식적으로 수용할 수도있다는 현대의 인지 언어학적인 관찰을 대안으로 제시한다. 더 나아가, 이 개념을 고대 이스라엘 문해 공동체와 개인을 둘러싼 환경, 즉 집단 기억에 대한 이론적 논의들과 연결하며, 기억과 망각 사이에서 공동체 속 현실의 개인에 관심을 가질 것을 촉구한다.

영문 초록

This article aims to find a methodological fusion of horizons between history and literature. Three cases are presented. How previous scholars have dealt with this methodological tension and gap is discussed. The paper looks for the possibility of a methodological fusion of horizons. Further, it questions the belief that logical coherency is necessary for biblical scholarship. It points out that belief is grounded on the writing and reading strategy based on modern Enlightenment Reason. As an alternative view, the recent cognitive observations on human linguistic concepts and experiences by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson show how language is formed through the human body’s experience and its socio-cultural environment. Also, the human being can unconsciously perceive paradox and irony through this process. Suppose we apply this theory to the ancient self surrounded by the well-trained literate scribal elite communities. In that case, it is necessary to discuss how collective memories are formulated and crystallized throughout the orality-literacy continuum. The research method on collective memories in biblical studies are diverse. Still, the increasing interest in collective memories shows how ancient scribes re-read and reinterpret their memories in reality, not ad litteram.
