국문 초록

아펜닌 반도의 에트루리아 문명(기원전 27년-기원후 900년 경)은 시공간적으로 한반도의 고구려 왕국(기원전 37년-기원후 668년)과 다르다. 하지만 그들은 모두 묘실에 벽화를 만든다는 흥미로운 공통점을 가지고 있다. 두 문명 모두 고분 벽화를 통하여 삶과 사후 세계에 대한 중요한 통찰을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 에트루리아인과 고구려 왕국의 벽화 주제를 비교하고 두 문화 간 회화 언어의 유사점 및 차이점을 확인한다. 차이점은 단순히 두 문화가 다르다는 점에 기인한다. 유사점 비교에 있어서는 초기 국가 형성에 있어서 공통적으로 공유되는 보편적인 가치와 표현 방식으로 설명 할 수 있다. 고분 벽화에는 매장된 사람들에 대한 묘사, 연회 장면, 사냥과 행렬 등 각 문명에서 일어나는 다양한 주제들을 담고 있다. 또한 두 문명의 장례 예술을 병치하여 설명하며 각 문화권마다 독특한 몇 가지 특이점을 보여준다. 고구려의 경우 별자리를, 에트루리아인의 경우 성관계 장면을 표현한 것이 바로 그것이다. 장면의 유사성은 공통적인 사회적, 행동적 요인에 의해 설명될 수 있다. 조상을 숭배하는 것과 지배계층이 피지배계층과 다르다는 점을 강하게 표현하는 것이 그 예이다.

영문 초록

The Etruscan civilization on the Apennine Peninsula (ca. 900 - 27 B.C.) and the kingdom of Goguryeo on the Korean Peninsula (ca. 37 B.C. - 668) were separated by time and space. Nevertheless, they share an interesting aspect of their culture in common which is the creation of murals in the chambers of mounded tombs. These murals provide important insights into the lifeworld and the perceptions of the afterlife for both civilizations. The present study compares the themes of the murals from the Etruscans and the kingdom of Goguryeo in order to ascertain similarities and differences in their pictorial language. Whilst the differences may be simply explained by cultural differences, the similarities may point to commonly shared or universal values and modes of representation in early state formations. As can be demonstrated there is a range of themes that occur in both civilizations such as depictions of the tomb owners, banqueting scenes, hunting, processions and many more. The juxtaposition of the funerary art from both civilizations reveals also a few peculiarities which may be unique for each cultural sphere. In case of Goguryeo this is the depiction of star constellations and for the Etruscans the representation of sex scenes. It is being argued that the similarities in the scenes can be explained by common social and behavioral factors. These are for instance the performance of an ancestor cult, a strong affiliation to elite distinction and the creation of a group-related identity.
