백제 서남부지역 최근 고고학적 조사 현황과 과제

국문 초록

백제 서남부지역은 백제의 중앙과 지방, 백제와 가야나 왜 등과의 관계에서 많은 논쟁의 대상이 되어온 지역이다. 이런 논쟁과 관련한 새로운 조사 성과들도 꾸준하게 나오고 있다. 전남 함평군과 영암군 등에서 중국이나 왜와 관련한 유물이 계속해서 출토되어 왔다. 전북 김제시 대동리 일원에서 분구묘가 집단적으로 확인되었다. 특히 전남 나주시 봉황면 유곡리에서는 전방후원형 고분(장고분)으로 추정되는 고분이 새롭게 발견되었다. 해남 군곡리 패총에서는 다수의 주거지와 고상건물 등 생활 유구를 비롯하여 제의, 방어, 생산, 분묘 유구 등 다양한 취락의 면모가 드러나고 있다. 이와 함께 해남 읍호리 고분군에 대한 최근 조사 성과로 보아, 해남 지역에 선사시대부터 백제에 이르기까지 상당한 해상 정치 세력이 존재하였을 것으로 추정된다. 이런 정치 세력이 마한과 백제 사이의 관계에서 어떤 위치를 차지하고 있는지에 대한 논의도 여전히 지속적으로 이루어져 왔다. 또한 백제 웅진·사비기의 왕도인 공주·부여·익산에서도 왕도의 구조와 운영, 왕도 핵심 시설(건물, 분묘 등)의 축조 기법과 주체, 운영 등에 대한 자료들이 계속해서 발견되고 있다. 이들에 대한 다양한 시각과 접근도 이루어지면서 백제 왕도의 실체를 새롭게 밝혀줄 수 있는 전기(轉機)가 마련되고 있다. 특히 백제 토목 기술에 대한 이해가 넓어지면서 고고자료에 대한 입체적인 접근도 시도되고 있다. 백제 서남부지역에서 영산강유역의 ‘마한’, 공주·부여·익산의 ‘백제’ 중심의 시각은 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 이런 점에서 최근에 이슈가 되는 토목, 제의 등은 백제 서남부 지역이 지닌 의미와 가치를 다른 관점으로 바라보는 전환점이 되리라 생각된다. 이들에 대해 좀 더 체계적으로 검토되어야 한다.

영문 초록

The southwestern part of Baekje has also been the subject of much controversy in relation to the central and provincial areas in Baekje(百濟), and Baekje(百濟) and Gaya(伽耶) and Wae(倭). The results of the new investigation into these debates are steadily coming out. Relics related to China and Wae continue to be excavated in Hampyeong-gun and Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. A large large-scale tomb was collectively identified in Daedong-ri, Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do. In particular, in Yugok-ri, Bonghwang-myeon, Naju-si, Jeollanam-do, a new tomb believed to be a the Keyhole-Shaped tomb was found. In the shell mound in Gungok-ri, Haenam, known as the remains of the shell mound, various villages such as ritual, defense, production, and tomb remains, as well as living remains such as a number of dwellings and high-rise buildings, are revealed. It is estimated that there were considerable maritime political forces from prehistoric times to Baekje in the areas of the shell mound in Gungok-ri, Haenam. Discussions on the position of these political forces in the relationship between Mahan(馬韓) and Baekje still need to be continued. In addition, in Gongju, Buyeo, and Iksan, the royal capital of Woongjin-Sabigi period in Baekje, data on the structure and operation of the royal capital and the construction techniques, subjects, and operation of royal capital key facilities (buildings, tombs, etc) continue to be found. Various perspectives and approaches to them are also being made, providing a biography to shed new light on the reality of the Baekje Royal capital. In particular, as the understanding of Baekje civil engineering technology expands, three-dimensional access to archaeological materials is also becoming possible. In the southwestern part of Baekje, the view centered on “Mahan” in the Yeongsangang River basin and “Baekje” in Gongju, Buyeo, and Iksan has not deviated much. In this regard, civil engineering and ritual, which have recently become issues, are thought to be a turning point in viewing the meaning and value of the southwestern region of Baekje from a different perspective. These should be reviewed more systematically.
