로잔운동에 관한 개혁주의 입장에서의 평가

국문 초록

본 논문은 개혁주의 신학의 관점에서 로잔운동에 나타난 복음전도와 사회적 관심의 관계성을 논의하는 데 목적이 있다. 1968년 웁살라 대회(Uppsala conference) 는 선교의 개념을 세속적이자 사회-정치학적 관점으로 확대했다. 심지어 1973년 방콕에서 열린 ‘세계선교 및 복음주의 위원회’(the Commission on World Mission andn Evangelism)에서는 해방신학을 지지하는 ‘오늘의 구원’(Salvation Today)과‘선교 모라토리엄’(moratorium on missions)이 발표되었다. 이에 대한 반발로, 성경적 복음주의를 기반(foundation)으로 세계복음화 운동을 위해 1974년 1차 로잔대회로서 세계복음화 국제대회(International Congress on World Evangelism)가 개최된 것이다. 그러나 로잔운동은 본래의 ‘복음의 우선성’(priority of Gospel)에서 벗어나, 사회적 관심과 복음전도를 통합시키는(integrating) 총체적 선교(holistic mission)를 지향하고 있다. 물론 역사적 관점에서, 총체적 선교는 복음을 제대로 이해하지 못한 채 선교를 실천했던 제국주의, 식민주의, 서구주의에 대한 반향(反響)으로서 긍정적으로 이해될 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 저자는 로잔대회에 나타난 총체주의(Holism)보다, 복음전도를 우선시하는 우선주의(prioritism)가 개혁주의 신학에 더 적합하다고 주장한다. 왜냐하면 개혁주의 선교는 세상을 변혁시켜야 할 긍정적 존재로 이해하기보다, 궁극적으로 종말론적 관점에서 하나님이 심판하실 멸망의 대상으로 고려하기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to discuss the relationship between evangelism and social concern in the Lausanne Movement from the perspective of reformed theolgoy. The Uppsala conference in 1968 expanded the concept of missionary to a secular and socio-political perspective. Moreover, the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism held in Bangkok in 1973 announced the ‘Salvation Today’ and ‘moratorium on missions’ that support liberation theology. As a backlash the international Congress on World Evangelism was held as the 1st Lausanne Congress in 1974 for the world evangelization movement founded on biblical evangelism. However, the Lausanne Movement has moved away from the original ‘priority of Gospel’ and is pursuing a holistic mission that the integrates social concern and evangelism. Undoubtedly, from the historical point of view, the holistic mission can be understood as the countereffect against imperialism, colonialism and Westernism that performed missionary work without a proper understanding of the gospel. Nevertheless, the author argues that the prioritism prioritizing evangelism is more appropriate for the reformed theology than the Holism that emerged in the Lausanne Congress. The reason for it is that the reformed theology can be considered that world as the target of destruction that God will make a judgment on ultimately from an eschatological point of view rather than a positive being that shall be transformed.
