국문 초록

은혜가 자연을 회복한다(grace restores nature)라는 모토를 기치로 삼고 있는 신칼뱅주의 전통에 속해 있었던 헤르만 바빙크는 “가정, 학교, 교회, 교회 정치, 국가, 사회, 예술, 학문 등 모든 영역들은 하나님의 영광을 위해 일하고 발전되어야만 한다”라는 말을 남기며 신학의 ‘확장성’을 강조했다. 신학은 사변적이고도 관념적인 피상적 학문이 되서는 안 되며 오히려 삶의 모든 영역 속으로 파고 들어가 왜곡된 영역들을 회복시켜야 할 사명과 소명을 가지고 있다고 바빙크는 생각했다. 동성애 문제도 마찬가지이다. 물론 바빙크는 자신의 저술들 가운데서 동성애 문제를 구체적으로 다루고 있지는 않다. 하지만 그의 저술들 도처에서 동성애 사안을 어떻게 바라보아야 할지에 대한 신학적 혜안(慧眼)을 발견할 수 있다. 본고의 목적이 바로 이것이다. 본고의 목적은 바빙크의 저술들을 포괄적으로 조망하며 만약 동성애가 창궐하고 있는 현재에 바빙크가 살았더라면 과연 어떤 가르침을 우리에게 주었을까를 가늠해 보는 것이다. 동성애 문제가 날로 심각해지고 있다. 이에 대한 찬반 논쟁 및 연구도 즐비하다. 본고는 바빙크가 추구했던 근본적인 신학 ‘원리’에 주목하며 동성애 사안에 대한 신학적 재고를 도모할 것이다. 근본적인 원리를 다시금 발견하고 그 원리들을 주춧돌로 삼아 복잡미묘한 현대 이슈들을 바라보는 것이 포스트모더니즘의 상대성 강조의 맹습 아래 살고 있는 우리에게 여전히 유효한 방법임을 믿는다. 본고의 진행 순서는 다음과 같다. 먼저 동성애 사안을 바라보는 근본적인 시각을 기르기 위해 바빙크의 『개혁교의학』(Gereformeerde Dogmatiek)에 드러난 ‘질서’(orde)에 대한 바빙크의 입장을 조망할 것이다. 그 후 가정생활에 대해 다룬 바빙크의 『기독교 가정』(Het Christelijk Huisgezin)을 중심으로 동성애 문제를 다룰 때 필요한 원리들을 크게 네 가지로, 즉 성적 구별성, 신적 기원성, 한 남자와 한 여자 사이의 결혼, 자녀 출산과 양육의 맥락 하에서 살펴볼 수 있는 원리인 통일성 속의 다양성의 순서대로 살펴보도록 하겠다. 마지막으로 실천적 고찰 지점을 파악한 후 총정리하며 본고를 마무리 짓도록 하겠다.

영문 초록

Herman Bavinck thought that theology should not be a speculative and ideological superficial science, but rather has a mission and a vocation to penetrate into all areas of life and restore distorted areas. The same is true of homosexuality. Bavinck, of course, does not specifically address the issue of homosexuality in his writings. But throughout his writings, we can find theological ‘insights’ into how to look at the issue of homosexuality. The purpose of this work is to comprehensively look at Bavinck’s writings and to estimate what kind of teachings Bavinck would have given us if he had lived in the current era of homosexuality. The issue of homosexuality is getting worse day by day. There is a lot of debate and research on the pros and cons. This study will focus on the fundamental theological ‘principles’ that Bavinck pursued, and seek to rethink the theological issues of homosexuality. The procedure of this paper is as follows. First, in order to cultivate a fundamental perspective on the issue of homosexuality, Bavinck’s position on the order(orde) revealed in Gereformeerde Dogmatiek(Reformed Dogmatics) will be looked at. After that, focusing on Bavinck’s Het Christelijk Huisgezin(The Christian Family), which dealt with family life, the principles necessary to deal with the issue of homosexuality will be examined in the four major principles: gender distinction, divine origin, a marriage between a man and a woman, and the order of diversity in unity within the context of marriage, childbearing and raising children. Finally, after identifying practical points of consideration, the study will be concluded by summarizing it.
