국문 초록

필자는 우리 한반도가 서구문명을 받아들여 대한민국을 만드는 데에는 기독교가 매우 중요한 역할을 했다고 본다. 기독교, 특히 개신교는 개항과 더불어 곧 바로 들어와 한반도에 미국과 서구 문명을 전하였다. 사실 미국이 한반도에 깊은 관심이 없을 때 기독교는 한민족을 사랑하였고, 기독교를 매개로 하여 미국은 한국민과 접촉을 하였고, 해방 후에는 대한민국을 만들었다. 이런 점에서 기독교는 오늘의 대한민국을 만드는데 결정적인 기여를 했다. 본 논문은 이런 것들을 전제로 하면서 한국근현대사에서 기독교의 역할을 다음의 몇가지 단계를 통해서 설명하고자 한다. 우선 본 논문은 한국 근현대사를 기독교적인 관점에서 본다는 것이 무엇인지를 생각해 보는 것부터 시작해서 개항기(대한민국의 기원), 일제시기(대한민국의 씨앗), 해방 3년(대한민국 건국기), 6.25와 그 이후(대한민국 수호기), 산업화와 민주화(대한민국의 발전기)의 5단계로 나누어서 기독교의 역할을 탐구해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

The author believes that Christianity played a very important role in the Korean Peninsula accepting Western civilization and creating the Republic of Korea. Christianity, especially Protestantism, entered the Korean Peninsula right after the opening of the country and introduced American and Western civilization to the Korean Peninsula. In fact, when the United States was not deeply interested in the Korean Peninsula, Christianity loved the Korean people, and through Christianity, the United States made contact with the Korean people, and after liberation, created the Republic of Korea. In this respect, Christianity made a decisive contribution to creating today’s Republic of Korea. This paper, based on these presuppositions, attempts to explain the role of Christianity in modern and contemporary Korean history through the following several stages. First, this paper begins by considering what it means to view modern and contemporary Korean history from a Christian perspective, and then explores the role of Christianity by dividing it into five stages: the period of port opening (the origin of the Republic of Korea), the Japanese colonial period (the seeds of the Republic of Korea), the three years after liberation (the founding of the Republic of Korea), the Korean War and after (the defense of the Republic of Korea), and industrialization and democratization (the development of the Republic of Korea).
