국문 초록

이 글은 안병무의 민중사건론을 바탕으로 ‘금융화 시대의 민중신학’ 이라는 이론적 과제를 수행하기 위한 시론적 연구이다. 특히 화폐와 금융의 논리에서 미래의 부정과 현재의 가치평가의 악화를 포착해온 비판적 금융연구의 성과들과 대화하는 가운데, 가능성으로서의 미래에 대한 감각을 파괴함으로써 사회적 고통을 생산하는 금융자본주의에 대한 신학적 비판의 자원으로 안병무의 ‘가능성’ 개념을 탐구한다. 이를 위해 우선제Ⅱ장에서는 민중을 개념적으로 정의하는 대신에 민중을 이해하는 방식으로서 ‘사건’의 중요성을 강조했던 안병무의 논의를 살펴본다. 이를 통해 안병무 민중신학에서 민중과 사건이 동의어적 관계를 맺고 있음을 확인한다. 이어서 제Ⅲ장은 안병무의 민중사건론의 독특성이 민중의 자기초월 가능성과 종말성에 대한 강조에 있다는 점을 드러낸다. 이러한 논점에 기초하여 안병무의 가능성 개념이 민중신학적 전회를 통해 민중의 자기초월 가능성에 관한 논변으로 발전하는 과정을 재구성한다. 제Ⅳ장은 앞서 살펴본 안병무의 가능성으로서의 미래 개념에 기초하여 미래없음의 소외를 강제하고 있는 현대의 금융자본주의를 비판적으로 분석한다. 여기서 오늘날 자본주의가 일상생활의 금융화를 통해 가능성의 감각을 체계적으로 파괴하고 있다는 점을 확인한다. 결론인 제Ⅴ장에서는 금융의 논리에 의해 결정된 미래나 시간의 지평과는 대조적으로 안병무의 가능성으로서의 미래 개념과 자기초월 가능한 존재로서의 민중에 대한 이해가 이미 현실적으로 존재하되 그 현실적인 것이 ‘아직 아님’의 상태로 현존함을 나타내는 역사 속의 화산맥으로서의 민중사건의 독특한 시간성을 드러내는 비판의 범주로 활용될 수 있음을 주장한다.

영문 초록

This paper is a preliminary study to undertake the theoretical task of ‘Minjung theology in the age of financialization’ based on Ahn Byung-Mu’s theory of Minjung-Event. In particular, it engages with the achievements of Critical Finance Studies that have captured a negation of the future and an exacerbation of the valuation of the present in the logic of money and finance. This paper explores the concept of the possibility in Ahn Byung-Mu’s thought as a resource of theological critique of financial capitalism, a system that produces social suffering by destroying the sense of the future as a possibility. To this end, Chapter II first examines Ahn Byung-Mu’s argument that emphasizes the importance of ‘events’ as a way of understanding the Minjung instead of defining the Minjung conceptually. Minjung and events have a synonymous relationship in Ahn Byung-Mu’s Minjung theology. Subsequently, Chapter III reveals that the uniqueness of Ahn Byung-Mu’s theory of Minjung-Event lies in the emphasis on the possibility of the Minjung’s self-transcendence and eschaton-like nature. Based on these points, this paper reconstructs the process in which Ahn Byung-Mu’s concept of possibility develops into an argument about the possibility of the self-transcendence of the Minjung through the Minjung theological turn. Chapter IV critically analyzes contemporary financial capitalism, which forcibly imposes the alienation of futurelessness, based on Ahn Byung-Mu’s concept of the future as the possibility. Here, it is confirmed that the current capitalism systematically destroys the sense of possibility through the financialization of everyday life. Chapter V, the conclusion, argues that in contrast to the horizon of the future or time determined by the logic of finance, Ahn Byung-Mu’s concept of the future as the possibility and his understanding of the Minjung as an entity capable of self-transcendence can be used as a category of critique that reveals the unique temporality of the Minjung-Event akin to volcanic lava in history that represents that which is already actual is but is present only as the ‘not yet’ of the actual.
