漢詩에 형상화된 壬辰倭亂, 그 항쟁과 수난의 양상

국문 초록

1592년에 시작되어 1598년에 끝난 임진왜란은 7년간에 걸쳐 동북아 정세 변화에 지대한 영향을 미치고 조선 건국 이래로 막대한 피해를 입힌 전쟁이었다. 본고에서는 ‘관군의 패배와 희생’, ‘의병장의 투쟁과 활약’, ‘백성들의 수난과 상처’라는 세 가지 층위에서 강원도와 그 주변 지역을 중심으로 관련 한시를 분석하였다. 관군을 이끈 首將으로는 원주 영원산성에서 전사한 金悌甲, 강원도 助防將으로 驪江 전투에서 승리했으나 김화 전투에서 전사한 元豪, 楊州 蟹踰嶺 전투에서 승리했지만 잘못된 장계 때문에 억울하게 희생된 申恪 등이 있다. 전쟁이 끝난 후 藥圃 李海壽와 八谷 具思孟은 각각 『亂後悼亡錄』과 『亂後弔亡錄』을 남겼는데, 두 책에 모두 이 세 인물에 관한 시가 수록되어 있다. 이 세 사람을 대상으로 한 애도시에는 적들의 기습공격을 대비하지 못했고, 험준한 지형을 활용하지 못했으며, 백성들의 내부 단속이 이루어지지 못했고, 한 번의 승리로 적에 대해 방심했으며, 지휘관들의 의사소통이 효율적으로 이루어지지 못해 억울한 희생이 발생한 점 등 당시 관군의 총체적 문제점들이 그대로 드러나 있다. 임진왜란 당시 의병장으로 활약한 인물로는 金浦와 江華에서 왜적을 방어한 禹性傳, 황해도 延安城을 수성했던 李廷馣 등이 있다. 이들에 대해서는 약포와 팔곡 이외에도 黃暹과 茶山이 시를 남겼다. 팔곡은 우성전에 대한 애도시에서 전쟁이 끝난 후 은전이 더해지지 않고 견책을 당한 사실에 대해 當局者의 처사를 비판하였다. 황섬과 다산은 동일하게 이정암의 守城을 칭송하였지만, 다산은 그 이전에 신각이 세웠던 공로를 언급하며 더 깊은 맥락에서 역사를 바라보았다. 백성들이 받은 수난과 상처를 다룬 시로는 蓀谷 李達과 許筠의 작품이 있다. 손곡은 전란 통에 죽은 아들을 제사지내는 할아버지와 손자, 남편을 잃고 홀로 아이를 키우는 어린 과부, 아들과 며느리를 다 잃고 피난길에 오른 노부부의 사연을 한시에서 곡진하게 그려내었다. 허균은 장편시 <老客婦怨>을 통해 전쟁 때문에 모든 것을 다 잃은 한 여인의 기구한 인생을 상세하고 핍진하게 묘사하였다. 전란 중에 가족을 잃고 생명의 위협을 느끼며, 투쟁하고 도망치며 살아남기 위해 끈질기게 노력해야 했던 것은 지위고하를 막론하고 누구나 마찬가지였다. 자신의 잘못이 아닌데도 희생을 감내해야 했던 것은 결국 전쟁 자체가 빚어낸 모두의 비극이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Imjin War(Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592) lasted for seven years. It did Joseon big damage and had a great impact on the change of situation of Northeast Asia. In this paper, I analyzed Korean ancient poems expressed disastrous scenes of the Imjin War. The main subject is divided into three sections: first, the defeat and sacrifice of the government army; second, a struggle and activity of a commander of volunteers; third, sufferings and injury of the people. Kim, Je-gap, the governor of Wonju, died a glorious death on the field of battle at Youngwon fortress. Won-ho, a deputy commander of Gangwon province, won a victory in battle at Yeo-river but eventually died in battle at Kimhwa. Shin-gak won a victory in battle at Haeyou-ryeong of Yangju. It was the first victory of Joseon in a land battle. But he was put to death unfairly due to a wrong report. After the war, Lee, Hae-su wrote Nanhu- domangrok and Gu, Sa-maeng wrote Nanhu-jomangrok. Each book is a collection of poems lamenting the war dead. They both wrote condolence poems for Kim, Je-gap, Won-ho and Shin-gak. These poems show the whole problems of government forces; insufficiency for the enemy’s surprise attack, disuse of steep landform, betrayal of uncontrolled inside people, carelessness due to only one victory, a false punishment due to wrong communication, etc. Woo, Seong-jeon as a commander of volunteers defended the Japanese invaders at Kimpo and Ganghwa. Lee, Jeong-am, the governor of Yeonan, defended the fortress against the enemy. Lee, Hae-su, Gu, Sa-maeng, Hwang-seom, and Dasan wrote poems about these two people. Reading the poems, we come to know that a victor did not get any special privilege but did receive a reprimand instead. Hwang-seom and Dasan praised Lee, Jeong-am’s contribution to keeping the fortress. And Dasan also praised Shin-gak’s contribution to defensive preparation of Yeonan before. Lee-Dal and Heo-Gyun described sufferings and hurts of the people in their poems. Lee-Dal portrayed a grandfather who held a memorial service for his son died in a war, a young widow who lost her husband in a war and has raised her daughter by herself, and an elderly couple who was fleeing to neighboring province losing their son and daughter-in-law. Heo-Gyun wrote a long piece, Nogaekbuwon, which described a woman’s checkered life in a war.
