국문 초록

1945년 제2차 세계대전 종전 이후 오늘날에 이르기까지 이른바 현대 한국의 ‘분단문제’는 가장 중요한 학문적 화두요 실천적 과제이다. 거기에는 한 사회와 국가, 민족의 현실과 미래의 경로와 가능성을 조건 짓는 제약조건과 가능조건의 거의 모든 것들이 응축되어 있다. 한반도 분단 원인은 크게 민족 내부적 원인과 외세에 의한 원인으로 나누어 고찰할 수 있다. 외세의 영향력을 절대적인 것으로 상정하는 외인론자들은 남북 분단이 미ㆍ소간의 권력ㆍ이데올로기 대립에서 초래된 것이라고 주장한다. 이에 반하여 내인론자들은 국내정치세력의 좌우대립 때문에 한반도가 분단되었다고 주장하면서 내인론을 정식화했다. 분단은, 외세에 의해 규정되어진 것이면서 동시에 민족내부의 분열과 정치력 빈곤에서 기인된 것이기도 하였다. 처음에는 민족외적인 외세의 힘에 의하여 분할점령이 강요되었으나, 민족내부의 근본적인 원인과 결합되어 복합적인 분단 구조를 형성하여 오늘에 이른 것이라고 평가할 수 있다. 내인은 외인에 압도당해 분단체제를 형성할 수밖에 없었으나, 시간이 지나면서 점차 외인보다는 내인이 크게 작용하고 있다. 즉 남북한 간에는 분단의식이 내면화되고 여러 가지 이유로 이것이 확대 재생산되고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 따라서 20세기 중반 외세에 의해 강요되었으며 국내 정치세력들의 이데올로기 대립에 의해 가속화된 분단이 60여년간 지속되고 있다는 것은 극히 예외적인 케이스라고 할 것이다.

영문 초록

From the end of the World War II to today, to Korean scholars, the issue on the division of the Korean Peninsula is one of the most academically important issues and practical applications. The issue is intertwined with all possibilities and limits on future paths of Koreans and reserves the concepts ranged from state building and national strategy to modernity and nationalism. The causes of two Koreas stem from due to both external and internal factors. The exogenous factors can be conceptualized as 'coercive forces' such as strains between ideologies and conflicts between the US. and the USSR. The endogenous factors, for a source of separation, weight more on the left-right wing conflicts which rested on class conflicts in Korea than coercive forces. The division of the Korean Peninsula is, thus, considered as an outcome of exogenous factors relied upon the conflicts between capitalism and socialism as well as endogenous factors, i.e., the variation of nationalism under the Cold War as a source of conflicts among domestic people. Ideologies and values aiming upon separation rather union and the reckless party conflicts without compromise and understanding expedited the establishment of division of the Koreas. These inner conflicts as well as external ones rooted in ages ahead the Japanese Dominance in 1910-1945.
