미국 대학 KFL 학습자의 변인에 따른 한국어 학습 전략 분석

국문 초록

본고는 미국 대학 KFL 학습자의 변인에 따른 한국어 학습 전략을 분석하여 교육적 시사점을 얻는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 127명의 학습자 대상 한국어 학습 전략 조사 결과를 성별, L1, 수강 강좌 수준, 목표언어 대중매체 접촉 변인에 따라 분석하였다. 성별에 따라서는 여학생이 모든 범주에서 전략 사용 빈도가 높았다. L1에 따라서는 중국어 L1 학습자의 인지 관련 전략 사용이 많았는데, 이전 L2 학습 경험이 영향을 준 것으로 보인다. 수강 강좌 수준이 높은 집단이 전략 사용이 많았으며 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보인 것은 사회적 전략이었는데 이는 KFL 상황과 연관이 있었다. 대중매체 접촉을 하는 학습자들이 그렇지 않은 학습자들보다 모든 범주에서 전략 사용이 많았으며 기억, 인지, 상위인지 전략 범주가 통계적으로 유의했다. 이를 통해 그간 한국어 학습 전략에서 고려되지 못한 목표언어 대중매체 접촉 역시 KFL 학습자의 전략 사용과 관련되며, 이는 학습자의 동기 강화, 학습의 유의미화에도 기여한다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the influence of learner variables such as gender, L1, course level, and exposure to Korean popular media on KFL students’ language learning strategies. The findings of this study were analyzed based on the correlation between individual learner variables and strategy use of 127 US-based KFL university students measured by the SILL survey. The relationship between KFL students’ gender and language strategy use was found that female students demonstrated a higher use of learning strategies in all categories than their male counterparts. The use of strategies varied according to different L1 groups. The third variable, course level, showed a linear relationship. Advanced learners demonstrate significantly higher strategy use, especially in the domain of Memory, Cognitive, and Meta-cognitive strategies. The last variable, exposure to Korean popular media, showed that, their interest in learning Korean stemmed from popular Korean culture. This previously overlooked factor can accelerate the interaction between Korean language and culture acquisition. Through this approach to learners’ strategy use, the breadth of understanding of KFL learners can be expanded.
