국문 초록

한국의 학벌주의 문화와 과열된 교육 관련 연구는 상당수 진행되고 있는 반면 사교육의 핵심 수요자인 대입 수험생 엄마의 여가 경험을 조명하는 연구는 전무하다. 이 연구의 목적은 자녀 대학 입학 준비 시기 동안 사교육에 적극적이었던 대입 수험생 엄마의 여가제약과 여가 활동 경험(참여, 배제)을 이해하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 한국에 거주하는 탈 고3 엄마에게 자녀 대학 입시 기간 중의 여가제약과 경험에 대해 2022년 4월부터 10월까지 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 수집된 자료를 근거이론 기법을 활용하여 총 14명의 자료를 분석하였다. 내용을 분석한 결과, 대입 수험생 엄마의 여가 경험은 30개의 하위범주, 11개의 상위범주로 도출되었으며 이를 토대로 패러다임 모형을 제시하였다. 인과 조건은 ‘고3 엄마라는 과중한 역할 부담’, 중심 현상은 ‘적극적 여가 활동 위축’, ‘종교 여가 활동 증대’, 맥락 조건은 ‘일-여가-자녀 시간 안배 어려움’, 중재 조건은 ‘자본의 활용’, ‘우선순위 설정’, 작용/상호작용 전략은 ‘행동적٠인지적 협상’으로 나타났으며, 그 결과 ‘여가 활동 참여’, ‘여가 활동 배제’, ‘여가 활동 중립’으로 도출되었다. 선택 코딩 결과 핵심 범주로 분석된 ‘자녀 사교육에 적극적인 한국 대입 수험생 엄마의 여가 활동 의미 찾기’는 3가지 유형으로 범주화되었다. 구체적으로 워라밸형, 전통형, 중립형으로 유목화되었고 각 유형별로 상이하게 나타난 특징과 근거이론을 제시하였다. 이 연구는 자녀 사교육에 적극적인 한국 엄마가 대입 수험생 자녀의 입시 과정을 거치는 동안 여가제약과 경험을 분석한 초기 연구라는 이론적 시사점을 찾을 수 있다. 결과를 토대로 수험생 유자녀 중년 여성의 여가정책과 인력 활용 고용정책을 수립하는데 적용이 가능한 정책적 시사점과 상담 치료 및 취업 재교육 관련 실무적 시사점을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

While there have been numerous studies on academic elitism in Korea and excessive education fever, none have examined the leisure experiences of mothers who actively participated in their children's shadow education for university entrance exams. The goal of this research is to better understand those mothers' leisure experiences. From April to October 2022, in-depth interviews were conducted on the leisure experiences of mothers living in Korea. The findings demonstrated that the leisure experiences of mothers who dedicated themselves to their children's shadow education for college entrance were derived from 30 sub-categories and 11 categories, and a paradigm model was presented as a result. The developed model was named 'Finding the meaning of leisure activities for Korean mothers who actively participated in their children's shadow education for college entrance exam,' and it was classified into three types: 'work-life balanced type,' 'conventional type,' and 'in-between type.' The theoretical contributions stem from the study's originality in analyzing the leisure experiences of Korean mothers during their children's university entrance exam period. Furthermore, policy implications for establishing leisure policies and employment policies utilizing human resources of middle-aged women with highschoolers, as well as practical implications for counseling treatment and job retraining, were proposed.
