영문 초록

This study analyzes the properties of 111 lacquerwares unearthed from ancient tombs of the Mid-Western Han Dynasty in China, while the research on the aesthetics and modeling characteristics of those lacquerwares is very limited nowadays. The paper is aimed to study the style characteristics and technical excellence of lacquerwares in the Mid-Western Han Dynasty, and to provide basic data for future research. In the middle of the Western Han Dynasty, social stability and economic prosperity provided a good environment guarantee for the development of lacquerware. In terms of cultural thought, the aesthetic requirements dominated by Confucianism, Taoism and the five elements theory had a certain impact on the development of lacquerware, and objectively formed the characteristics of lacquerware, which were mainly of practical types such as boxes and plates, and most of the forms were necessities of life. The lacquer body was mostly wooden, with a certain amount of pottery. The pattern materials were natural patterns, animal patterns and geometric patterns in turn. The main patterns were cloud, persimmon root, phoenix and so on, and the subordinate patterns were geometry and cloud. The primers were red-inside and black-outside, of which the pattern colors were red. The layout of decorative patterns took a single pattern and the “S” shape composition as the main pattern, two continuous pattern as the subordinate pattern. Abstract deformation technique was mainly applied in the pattern expression. The pattern of lacquer painting performance was to complete the modeling style with colored painting techniques. Above all, lacquerware in the Mid-Western Han Dynasty presented a practical form and a distinctive modeling style with decorative features, and the research of specific and systematic research on the craftsmanship of Han Dynasty lacquerware is hoped to be conducted in the future
