국문 초록

이 논문은 니체와 헤세의 이분법적 두 세계의 중력에 대한 고찰이다. 이분법 적 두 세계의 중력이란 ‘선과 악’이라는 두 세계 사이에 놓인 인간에 대한 이야기 이다. 사실 ‘선과 악’이라는 중력의 무게는 똑같다. ‘선과 악’ 이라는 중력의 무게 는 같아서 인간이 그 사이를 잇는 밧줄에 어느 쪽에 그의 힘의 의지를 싣느냐에 따라 인간은 짐승으로 또는 위버멘쉬(Übermensch)가 되는 것이다. ‘선과 악’이 라는 중력의 무게는 오직 인간 자기 스스로의 판단으로 결정된다. 헤세는 자신 의 저서 『데미안』에서 주인공 싱클레어를 ‘선과 악’ 이라는 이분법적 두 세계의 중력 사이에 그를 몰아넣는다. 그 사이에 놓인 싱클레어는 영혼의 고독을 느꼈 고, 그를 그토록 쉴 새 없이 몰아댄 숙명을 느낀다. 그리고 그와 더불어 고통 받 았고, 그와 동시에 그렇게 가차 없이 자신의 운명을 걸어간 사람이 있었다는 사 실에 기뻤다. 그 사람이 철학자 니체이다. 헤세는 싱클레어를 통해 어떻게 ‘선과 악’이라는 그 중력 사이사이에서 두 세계를 분열시키지 않고 ‘선과 악’을 동시에 품을 수 있는지 그 가능성을 시험한다. 그 가능성은 아브락사스다. 아브락사스 는 유아적인 ‘선과 악’의 이분법적 관념을 넘어선 무의식의 존재로서 ‘밝음과 어 둠의 그림자’, ‘남성과 여성의 혼합’을 상징하는 신이다. 본고는 헤세의 니체 수용, 즉 ‘선과 악’ 이라는 두 세계의 중력을 새롭게 해석하고자 한다. 첫째는 니체와 헤세를 하나로 관통하는 것은 인간에 대한 이야기이 다. 그들에게 인간은 짐승과 위버멘쉬 사이를 잇는 심연위에 걸친 밧줄이자, ‘선 과 악’을 세계의 밖에서 찾는 것이 아니라 자기 안에서 두 세계의 중력을 품는 자 들이다. 둘째, 헤세는 싱클레어와 데미안 사이의 실마리를 어떠한 영혼의 유사성 이 아니라 육체의 친밀성으로 번역한다. 그렇게 함으로써 싱클레어가 궁극적으 로 데미안으로 되듯이, 이러한 과정을 니체의 학문과 철학을 통해 위버멘쉬 (Übermensch)의 과정들을 고찰하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This thesis is a review of the gravity of two dichotomous worlds of Nietzsche and Hesse. The gravity of the two dichotomous worlds is a story of a human being placed between two worlds called ‘good and evil’. In fact, the weight of the gravity of ‘good and evil’ is the same. The weight of the gravitational force of ‘good and evil’ is the same, so humans become beasts or Übermensch, depending on which side of the man puts the will of his power on the rope between them. The weight of the gravity of ‘good and evil’ is determined solely by human judgment. In his book Damian, Hesse puts the protagonist Sinclair between the gravitational forces of two dichotomous worlds called ‘good and evil’. In the meantime, Sinclair feels the loneliness of his soul, and the fate that has driven him so incessantly. And I was glad to know that there was a person who suffered with him and at the same time walked his fate so relentlessly. That person is the philosopher Nietzsche. Hesse tests the possibility of how, through Sinclair, it is possible to embrace ‘good and evil’ at the same time without dividing the two worlds between the gravitational forces of ‘good and evil’. The possibility is Abraxas. Abraxas exerts all his power to break the egg on his own, finally exceeding the weight of the earth’s gravity, spreading its golden wings and flying above the blue sky. This paper intends to reinterpret Hesse’s acceptance of Nietzsche, that is, the gravity of the two worlds, ‘good and evil’. First, it is the story of humans that 141 142 penetrates Nietzsche and Hesse as one. To them, humans are a rope over the abyss that connects the beast and the Übermensch, and they are those who embrace the gravity of the two worlds within themselves, rather than seeking ‘good and evil’ from outside the world. Second, Hesse translates the clue between Sinclair and Damian as not any similarity of souls, but of intimacy of the body. In doing so, just as Sinclair ultimately becomes Damian, I would like to examine the process of Übermensch through Nietzsche’s science and philosophy.
