국문 초록

본 연구는 학교교육의 현실을 파악하고 이를 초기불교 붓다의 관점에서 조명해본 것이다. 연구자의 문제의식은 학교교육의 현실이 녹록하지 못하다는 거시적 진단에서 비롯되었다. 미시적 진단을 통해 드러내고자 했던 학교교육의 실상은 역사적으로 유전한 전유물과 같은 과도한 ‘교육열’에 의해 교육의 생태계가 파괴되고 있다는 점이다. 학생을 비롯한 학교교육의 주체들은 입시위주의 교육과 과도한 경쟁으로 인하여 괴로움을 느끼고 방황하고 있다. 학교교육은 자유학기제와 고교학점제와 같은 교육제도의 실천을 통해서 문제를 해결하고자 노력하고 있다. 새로운 교육제도의 실천에도 불구하고 제도를 구현하는 교육주체들의 마음은 새롭지 못하다. 약 2500년 전의 초기불교 대화편에는 오늘날 학교교육의 현실과 유사한 상황에 놓인 제자와 부모에게 펼친 가르침이 있다. 본 연구에서는 오래된 붓다의 가르침을 현대 학교교육의 문제를 해결하는 혜안으로 제안하였다. 이를 위해 현대의 귀감적 교사로서 붓다를 설정하였다. 연구자는 보다 적극적으로 불교와 우리 사회의 교육문제를 연결시켜보았다.

영문 초록

This study worked out the reality of school education and illuminated it from the perspective of the early Buddhism. The researcher's awareness of the problem stems from the macroscopic diagnosis that the reality of school education is not easy. After which the emerging of school education, that was intended to be revealed through micro-diagnosis, is that the ecosystem of education is being destroyed by excessive 'educational enthusiasm' such as historically inherited exclusive property. Students and other subjects of school education are feeling and wandering due to entrance exam-oriented education and excessive competition. School education is trying to solve problems through the practice of educational systems such as the free semester system and the high school credit system. Despite the implementation of the new education system, the minds of the educational subjects implementing the system are not new. In the Early Buddhism dialogue about 2,500 years ago, Buddha teaches disciples and parents in a situation similar to the reality of school education today. In this study, the teaching of old Buddha was proposed as a wisdom to solve the problem of modern school education. To this end, Buddha was set as a modern model teacher. Through this, the researcher more actively linked Buddhism to the educational problem of our society.
