임진왜란기 유성룡과 이순신의 우의와 소통

국문 초록

이 글은 임진왜란기 유성룡과 이순신의 우의와 소통을 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 유성룡과 이순신의 인연과 우의, 유성룡의 이순신 전라좌수사 천거 및 소통, 위기에서 조선을 구한 유성룡과 이순신을 살펴본 후 결론을 도출해 본 것이다. 유성룡은 임진왜란을 앞두고 이순신·권율을 천거하여 해상과 육상에서의 대첩을 이끌어냈을 뿐만 아니라 군비확충·민생안정의 리더십을 발휘하여 임진전란 극복에 힘쓰고 후세에 길이 남길 쓰라린 반성의 기록인 징비록을 저술한 인물이다. 유성룡은 이순신의 죽마고우로서 일찍이 이순신을 비범함을 알아보고 전라좌수사로 천거한 후‘증손전수방략’이라는 병서를 보내주어 실전에 활용케 하였다. 또한 유성룡은 이순신이 모함을 받아 어려움에 처했을 때도 이순신을 변함없이 후원했다. 이순신은 해전사적 승전기록에 있어서 불패신화를 낳게 하였을 뿐만 아니라 문무덕을 겸전한 숭고한 인격의 소유자로서 조국에 대한 지극한 충성심과 탁월한 통솔력을 발휘한 위인이었다. 이순신은 일생동안 구국정신으로 국가에 몸과 마음을 바친 위대한 군인이자 성웅이었다. 난중일기·징비록 등이 잘 보여주고 있는 바와 같이, 유성룡의 이순신 천거와 돈독한 우의와 탁월한 능력들이 서로 시너지 효과를 발휘하여 불패의 해전승리로 불리한 전세를 역전시켜 절체절명의 위기를 가까스로 극복할 수 있었다. 두 사람의 만남은 위국헌신 등 시사점 및 교훈과 난향과 같은 여운을 주고 있다.

영문 초록

The objective of this paper is to analyse the friendship and communication between Yoo Seongryong and Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War. To this end the paper is composed of 5 chapters titled introduction; Yoo Seong-ryong and Yi Sun-sin's relationship and friendship; Yoo Seong-ryong's recommendation of Yi Sun-sin to Jeolla Jwasusa and communication; Yoo Seong-ryong and Yi Sun-sin who saved Joseon from crisis; and conclusion. Yoo Seong-ryong not only recommended Yi Sun-shin and Kwon Yul to cope with the sea and land ahead of the Japanese Invasion of Joseon in 1592, but also wrote Jingbirok(懲毖錄, the Book of Correction), a record of bitter reflection that will remain for future generations. Yoo Seong-ryong recognized Yi Sun-sin as extraordinary early on, and recommended him as Jeolla Jwasusa, and sent a military book titled 'Jeungsonjeonsubanglyag' so that he could use it in practice. In addition, Yoo Seong-ryong constantly sponsored Yi Sun-sin even when he was in trouble due to a conspiracy. Yi Sun-sin was a great man who not only gave birth to a myth of invincibility in the record of naval victories, but also showed great loyalty to his country and excellent leadership as a possessor of a noble personality who had both literary martial and moral virtue. Yi Sun-sin was a great soldier and holy hero who devoted his body and mind to the nation with the spirit of salvation throughout his life. As the Nanjung Ilgi(亂中日記, War Diary) and Jingbirok show well, Yoo Seong-ryong's recommendation of Yi Sun-sin and his deep friendship and outstanding abilities showed synergy with each other, reversing the unfavorable situation with an undefeated victory in naval battle, barely overcoming Joseon's crisis of desperation. The meeting between the two has implications, lessons, and lingering scents such as the devotion to the country.
