국문 초록

본고는 <每新寫眞旬報>에서 새롭게 발굴된 이석훈의 일본어 소설 ｢금광에 홀린남자(金山に憑れた男)｣를 분석한 논문이다. 최초 발굴이며 발표 연월일은 미상이다. 해제에 앞서 우선 본고에서는 현재까지 확인할 수 있는 <每新寫眞旬報> 발간사항을 표로 작성해 보았다. 그 결과 <每新寫眞旬報>는 현재 378호(1945년 1월1일)까지 확인 가능함을 알 수 있었고, 지금까지 학계에 한 번도 보고되지 않은조선인 작가의 작품들을 대거 확인할 수 있었다. 다음, 이석훈은 <每新寫眞旬報> 를 발행한 매일신보사와 일찍부터 관계를 맺고 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 신혼생활을 했던 강원도에서 오사카매일신문 통신원과 경성일보 춘천지국특파원외에도 매일신보 강원지국과 춘천지국의 기자로서 활동하였던 것이다. 이석훈은매일신보 강원지국의 기자 신분 덕분에 춘천의 유력자 중 한 명으로 치부되기도하였으나 생활은 몹시 가난하였다. 신문 기자로서의 삶은 그에게 보도욕을 불러일으키기도 하였지만 권태를 느끼게도 하였다. 하지만 취재 경쟁에 대한 스트레스, 사실 관계를 충분히 살펴보지 않은 채 성급히 보도한 자신의 실수, 도의 사업 선전이라는 신문 기자의 사명 등에 환멸을 느낀 후 기자를 그만 두고서울로 완전히 이주한다. 다음, ｢금광에 홀린 남자｣를 집필할 당시의 이석훈의 내면을 살펴보기 위해서울에서의 그의 삶도 간단히 살펴보았다. 그 결과 그는 문학인과 직업인의 두가지 길을 걸어갔음을 알 수 있었다. 이후 이석훈은 문학인의 길을 택하지만발표한 작품에 대한 문단의 반응은 뜨겁지 않았다. 여기에 조선일보와 동아일보가 강제 폐간되고 빈곤이 심해지자 재출발을 모색한다. 재출발은 시국과 호흡하고 체재에 협력하는 입장으로 선회하였음을 의미한다. 결국 이석훈은 조선문인협회가 개최한 전선순회강연회에 참여한 이후 급격히 체제 협력 쪽으로 경사하고만다. ｢금광에 홀린 남자｣는 이의 연장선상에서 살펴볼 수 있는 작품이다. ｢금광에 홀린 남자｣는 지식인이 광맥을 찾아 이상을 실현하겠다는 일념으로 금광을찾는 이야기이다. 이 작품을 통해 그는 당대 일제의 산금 정책에 협력하고, 노동과거리가 멀고 약한 신경을 지닌 지식인들의 삶에 근본적 변화를 꾀하려 했다. 나아가 이 작품은 금광개발을 통해 전시 경제 정책에 협력한 그의 또 다른 소설(｢인텔리, 금광에 간다!｣)의 스케치 같은 작품이라고 할 수 있다. 스케치에 덕지덕지물감을 올림으로써 그는 점차 자발적 시국 협력으로 나아가고 말았다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to bibliographically introduce ｢Man Possessed by GoldMine(金山に憑れた男)｣, a Japanese novel of Lee Seokhun(李石薰, 1907~1950?), which is newly discovered from Maesinsajinsunbo(每新寫眞旬 報). It is the first discovery and the date of publication is not known. This paper developed the issue matter table of Maesinsajinsunbo(每新寫眞旬報), which can be now verified, before the bibliographical introduction. It could be found that it is possible to verify up to Maesinsajinsunbo(每新寫眞旬報) No.378(issued in Jan., 01, 1945) and a large numbers of works created by authors from Joseon, which have not been reported to the academic circles. Lee Seokhun is found to has a relation with Maeilsinbosa at early age, which issued Maesinsajinsunbo(每新寫眞旬報). In Gwangwon-do where he enjoyed newly-married life, he worked not only as a correspondence clerk in Osakamaeilsinmun and a correspondent in the Chuncheon branch of Gyeongseongilbo, which have been already known, but also as a reporter in both the Gwangwon branch and the Chuncheon branch of Maeilsinbo. Although Lee Seokun was recognized as one of influential men in Chucheon, due to his status as a reporter, he was very poor. The contemporary life as a newspaper report made him have two ambivalent feelings of the ambition for report and languor. He, however, resigned as the reporter and emigrated to Seoul, after he disillusioned with the stress caused by coverage competition, his own mistakes due to hasty reporting without adequate investigation into facts and newspaper reports’ mission to propagate the projects initiated by Gangwon-do. The chapter 4 briefly examined the Seoul life of Lee Seokhun, to understand his inner mind when he wrote the ｢Man Possessed by GoldMine｣. The findings show that he precariously maintained both statuses of a literary man and a worker. Then, Lee Seokhun selected the former, but the works published by him could not attract strong attention. Moreover, Joseonilbo and Dongailbo were compulsorily closed (Aug., 10, 1940, so he sought out a new start. This new start means that he decided to adapt to the contemporary situation and cooperate with the regime by changing is mind. He subsequently made a sincere effort to cooperate with the regime, soon after participating in a front lecturing tour held by the Joseon Literary Men’s Association. ｢Man Possessed by GoldMine｣ is a work which can be reviewed in such a context. ｢Man Possessed by GoldMine｣ tells the story of an intellectual with weak mentality, who tried to find out a vein of gold only for realizing his own ideal. On the basis of it, he intended to cooperate with the contemporary Japanese gold mining policy and plan to give a fundamental change in the life of intellectuals with weak mentality, who have not engaged in labor. Furthermore, the work may be a sketch of ｢Intellectual, Go to Goldmine!｣, another novel of Lee Seokhun how cooperated with the wartime economic policy, by developing the goldmines. He thus made a gradual effort to spontaneously contribute to the situation, by applying paint to the sketch layer after layer.
