Intrusion Route as an Analysis Unit for Residential Burglars’ Target Assessment

국문 초록

본 연구는 주거침입절도의 위험도 예측 모형을 도출하기 위한 공간적 분석 단위로써 ‘주택 전체’와 ‘침입 경로’를 비교하기 위하여 수행되었다. VR을 활용한 주거침입절도 타겟 선택 실험에서의 피실험자의 응답이 ‘주택 전체’의 환경적 특성에 의해 결정되는지, 또는 선택한 ‘침입 경로’의 환경적 특성에 의해 결정되는지를 살펴보기 위하여 Kruskal-Wallis Test를 수행하였다. 또한 주거침입절도의 위험도 예측 모형을 도출하는 과정에서 피실험자가 선택한 침입 경로에 대한 고려가 예측 모형의 적합도에 주는 영향을 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 주거침입절도의 타겟이 되는 주택에 대한 평가는 ‘주택 전체’를 구성하는 다수의 환경 요소가 아닌 선호하는 또는 선택한 ‘침입 경로’를 구성하는 환경요소를 기반으로 이루어진다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 주거침입절도의 위험도를 예측하기 위해서는 해당 주택의 가능한 침입 경로들을 파악하고, 각 경로의 환경적 특징을 조사하는 것이 주택 전체를 종합적으로 평가하는 것에 비해 더 바람직할 것이라 사료된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a house s intrusion route is a more useful analysis unit for explaining residential burglars choice than the house as a whole. Also, we investigated whether a predictive model derived separately from the selected intrusion route better describes burglary decisions than a model derived from the entire response at once. Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to assess whether the participants evaluations were influenced by the general state of the house or that of the chosen intrusion route. Additionally, two regression studies were undertaken to investigate the effect of the intrusion route chosen on the derivation of regression models. The results indicated that the targeted house is evaluated primarily on the basis of environmental factors associated with the selected intrusion route, rather than on the basis of all environmental elements throughout the house. This result infers that the intrusion route should be treated as an analysis unit to obtain more accurate results for environmental factors affecting burglar s target selection.
