다원주의 관점에서 본, 후기 근대 교육의 목적

국문 초록

본 연구는, 급격한 사회변동이 진행되고 있는 후기 근대사회 한국에서, 필요한 인재상과 교육 방향에 대한 논의가 4차 산업혁명 시대 기술 변화에 대한 대응에 치우쳐 있다는 비판에서 시작한다. 구체적으로, 후기 근대사회에서 사회변동을 일으키는 또 다른 중요한 축인 ‘돌봄’에 대한 논의가 부재하다는 점, 사회를 유지･발전시키기 위해 인적자원을 육성하는 교육이란 도구주의적 관점에 대해 비판한다. 따라서 본 연구는, 돌봄 논의를 교육목적과 관련된 논의에 융합하고, 도구주의적 관점에서 벗어나 미래세대 개개인의 삶을 위한 교육에 대해 논의한다. 이를 위해, 첫째, 전통적 서양철학의 이원론에 뿌리를 둔 자기 이익 실현에 몰입하는 자아상, 즉 경제적 인간이란 인간상을 넘어, 사회심리학적 관점에서 ‘관계적 자아’, 즉 ‘우리’ 안에 정주(定住)하는 ‘나’를 논의한다. 둘째, 돌봄에 대해 배려윤리를 초점으로 도덕･윤리교육의 일면으로만 바라보는 제한적 논의에서 벗어나, 일상생활에서 향유하는 돌봄 가치에 대한 논의로 초점을 옮긴다. 셋째, 기술발전에 초점을 두는 경제적 일원론이 아닌 다원주의 관점을 도입해, 후기 근대 교육의 목적은, “경제적 삶을 꾸리는 자유인으로, 돌봄을 나누는 가족･이웃으로, 더 나은 사회 틀을 짜기 위해 참여하는 시민으로,” 행복하게 살아가는 생활인을 키우는 것임을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This study criticizes the current education system and their goal of fostering talented people in response to the technological changes in the fourth industrial revolution. Specifically, the criticism draws attention to two points. First, there is no discussion on ‘care’which is one of the main source of social change in post-modern society. Second, it takes on an instrumentalism perspective of education which reduces learners to mere resources for maintaining and developing the society. Thus, by integrating the discussion on care with the aim of education, this is a preliminary study that divert away from the instrumentalism perspective and instead, shifts the aim towards developing an education for individuals’ everyday life. To do so, this study goes beyond the economic conceptualization of individuals as those that are only engaged in serving their self-interest, which is rooted in the dualism of the traditional Western philosophy. Instead, individuals are viewed through the lens of social psychology, thus‘the self’ that lies within ‘us’, ‘relational self’, is discussed. Second, through employing a pluralistic insight rather than an economic monism, this study suggests that the aim of education in post-modern society is to foster ‘a happy person’ enjoying diverse self-concepts in balance -“a free man managing their economic life, a neighbor and a family member by sharing care and love, and a citizen participating in implementing good policies and social systems”. Lastly, this study argues for the shift in the education of the care ethics from being part of moral education towards care value that lets students enjoy care value in their daily lives.
