국문 초록

현대 도자예술에 있어 장식기법은 도자 표현을 위한 중요한 요소이며 시대의 미적 의식에 맞춰 다양한 모습으로 변화하고 있다. 여러 장식기법에 있어 표면 장식기법은 점토, 시유, 소성, 전사기법, 핸드페인팅 등으로 발전되고 있으며, 그중 질감 표현은 분청사기에서 볼 수 있는 귀얄기법부터 점토 부착방식, 소지 개발과 같은 실험적인 시도가 이어져 오고 있다. 본 논문에서는 여러 표면 장식기법 중 질감 표현에 집중하여 그 특징을 이해하고 제작방식을살펴보았다. 질감 표현 방식 중 일반 점토가 아닌 물질에 점화하면 연소시키는 것은 가능하지만, 착화온도가 높기 때문에 상온에서는 위험성이 없는 이연성 물질(종이, 석재, 곡물, 폴리스티렌)과 점토의 혼합을 통해 개발된 소지를 활용한 사례를 조사하였다. 1990년대부터 타 재료와의 혼합으로 제작된 소지는 페이퍼클레이(Paper Clay)를 기점으로 여러 도예가에 의해 표현방식 중 하나로 사용되어왔으며, 조형성을 높이고 시각적인 영향을 줄 수 있다는 점에서 주목받아 활용이 점차 확대되면서 다양하게 발달 되어왔다. 현재 도자예술에서 이연성 물질을 혼합해개발된 소지는 질감 표현, 공극, 색상 변화 등의 다양한 방식으로 활용되고 있으며, 이연성 물질을 혼합한 소지를 응용한 도자 표면장식은 다양한 활용가치를 지니고 있다. 또한 사례를 바탕으로 한 실험에서 연구자가 선정한 국내 소지와 자연성 물질을 이용해 결과를 도출하고 작품에 적용해봄으로써 이연성 물질의 활용 가능성을 연구하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 일반화된 점토에 제한되지 않은 여러 표면장식 창출과 다양한 접근방식의가능성을 확인할 수 있다. 이와 같은 연구가 많은 도예가에게 새로운 제작 영감을 불러일으키고 도자 표면 장식기법 영역의 확대에 기여하길 바란다.

영문 초록

Decorative art in modern ceramics is an important element for the expression of pottery and is changing in various forms to suit the aesthetic sense of the times. In many decorative techniques, surface decoration techniques are developed by clay, Glazing, and Firing Burning, among which experimental attempts have been made, such as the Kuiyaal Technique which can be seen in the Bunchung, clay attachment method, and material development. In particular, the case of using a mixture of non-hazardous substances (paper, stone, grain, polystyrene) was investigated because it is possible to burn them when ignited to substances other than ordinary clay, but because of the high temperature of ignition, it is not dangerous at room temperature. Since the 1990s, the composition of different materials and clay has been used by many potters as a way of expressing started by paper clay, and has developed various ways as the use of other materials gradually expands. In ceramics, a mixture of combustible material is used in various ways such as texture expression, air gap, and color change. It has also been noted that it can increase formality and have visual effects, and is developing gradually. As such, the ceramic surface decoration, which uses a mixture of combustible material, has a variety of uses. In addition, based on case experiment, the researchers used selected local clay and natural materials selected to derive results and apply them to their works to study the potential of combustible material. This study shows the possibilities of various surface decorations and approaches that are not limited to generalized clay. Hopefully, such research will inspire many ceramic artists to create new products and contribute to expanding the area of pottery surface decoration.
