국문 초록

무령왕릉 석수는 고대 중국의 동한시기부터 등장하는 고분부장 진묘수에 그 근원을 두고 있으며 漢系(한나라 스타일) 진묘수의 전통을 계승한 남조의 고분부장 진묘수와 계보를 같이 하고 있다. 무령왕릉 석수의 출현은 백제 자체의 정치적 정황과 상장의례를 충분히 반영하는 한편 남조와의 대외적 관계를 고려한, 치밀하고 정교한 변용을 거친 산물로 보아야 할 것이다. 현재까지 남조능묘 석각 및 고분부장 진묘수에 대한 시각은 대부분 이원적인 事象으로 인식함으로써 양자를 구분하여 고찰하는 경향이 우세하였다. 그러나 무령왕릉 석수에서 관찰되는 양자의 조합과 변용 양상을 배제할 수 없다. 이는 백제가 특정 시기 남조능원의 요소와 왕후 및 상층부의 상장의례를 동시에 감안하였을 가능성이 크다. 남경 및 주변 일대의 능묘석각에서 보이는 문양이 무령왕릉 석수에서도 관찰되는데, 날개[兩翼]와 같은 정교한 표현은 보이지 않지만 문양의 전체적인 유사성이 확인되고 있다. 이는 백제가 남조묘의 부장용 진묘수와 함께 지상의 진묘기물인 석각을 모두 參酌하였을 정황을 시사하는 것이다.

영문 초록

The origin of the Seoksu, a stone image of an animal set before a tomb, in the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong is the Zhenmushou, guarding animals in tombs, appearing from the Eastern Han Dynasty of Ancient China, and the genealogy is with the Zhenmushou of Nanzhao Dynasty that succeeded the tradition of Han Dynasty style of Zhenmushou. The appearance of Seoksu in the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong reflects the political situation and funeral ceremonies of Baekje sufficiently, and it can be seen as the result of passing through elaborate and exquisite transformation in consideration of the foreign relationship with the Nanzhao Dynasty. Until today, the view on the stone carvings on the tombs of Nanzhao and Zhenmushou in the tombs were mostly considered separately by recognizing in dualistic thinking. However, the aspect of combinations and transformations observed in the Seoksu in the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong cannot be excluded, and this has high possibility that Baekje considered the elements of Nanzhao Dynasty in the specific period, and the funeral ceremony of the upper class at the same time. The patterns shown in the stones of the tombs in Nanjing and surrounding regions are also observed in the Seoksu in the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, and exquisite expressions such as both wings were now observed, but similarity in the overall patterns were verified. Baekje took into consideration on both the Zhenmushou of the Nanzhao tombs along with the stone carvings of Zhenmushou.
