국문 초록

이 글은 우리 시대 새로운 가족 패러다임의 변화를 설명하기 위한 방법적 개념으로 ‘가족적인 것The familial’을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 가족적인 것은 혈연으로만 이루어지지 않은, 친구 같기도 하고 가족이기도 한, 때론 가족보다 더 가족적인 여러 관계적 실천들을 지시한다. 이 개념은 가족의 수행적ㆍ동사적 측면을 강조한다는 점에서 ‘가족실천’ 또는 ‘가족시연’ 개념과 유사하지만, 우리가 수행하는 다양한 가족 행위의 가족‘성’을 비판적으로 논의하고가족과 비가족의 규범적 기준을 문제삼는다는 점에서 차이가 있다(2절). 필자는 아렌트(Hannah Arendt)의 ‘공police/사oikos’ 구분에 대한 버틀러(Judith Butler)의 재해석을 경유해서, 다양한 가족들이 파생되는 공통의 의미 지반을 ‘불안정하고 상처받기 쉬운 유기체적 삶의 조건 속에서 지속가능한 상호의존성’으로 분석한다(3절). 그런 다음 문화인류학자 홀(Edward T. Hall)의 ‘영토권territoriality’ 개념을 통해 가족적인 것이 유동적ㆍ복합적으로 파생되는 실제 현상을 밀접한 거리, 개인적 거리, 사회적 거리를 조정하는 공간적 실천으로 서술한다(4절). 이러한 논의들을 바탕으로 한국사회의 가족 이데올로기를 내파하면서 가족, 친구, 이웃, 마을, 사회, 생태환경을 재구조화하는 연결의 정치학을 시론적으로 제안한다(5절).

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to propose the familial as a method concept to explain the change in the new family paradigm of our time. The familial refers to a number of relational practices that are not solely related by blood, such as friends, that are sometimes more familial than family. This concept is similar to the concept of family practice or family display in that it emphasizes the performative and behavioral aspects of family. It differs in that it takes issue with the normative standards of family (Section 2). By way of Judith Butler s reinterpretation of Arendt s police/private oikos distinction, the author describes the common meaning from which various families are derived as ’sustainable interdependence in conditions of an unstable and vulnerable organic life (Section 3). Then, through the cultural anthropologist Edward T. Hall s concept of territoriality, the actual phenomenon in which the family is derived fluidly and complexly is described as a spatial practice that adjusts close distance, personal distance, and social distance (Section 4). Based on these discussions, I would like to propose a poetic theory of the politics of connection that restructures family, friends, neighbors, villages, society, and ecological environments while imploding the family ideology of Korean society (Section 5).
