국문 초록

노인의 사회적 참여 여부와 참여수준은 개인의 특성에 따라 달라질 수 있겠지만, 개인적요인 외에도 다양한 주변의 환경적 요인들과도 연결되어 나타난다. 이에 본 연구에서는 과연어떠한 요인들이 노인의 사회적 참여 여부와 참여수준을 촉진시키는데 영향을 주는지 보다포괄적으로 접근하기 위해서 기존 연구들에서 크게 다루지 않았던 환경적 요인을 포함해 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 선행연구를 바탕으로 노인의 주거지역, 친구들과의 사회관계망형성 수준, 자녀와의 교류 수준을 노인의 사회적 참여 여부와 참여수준과 관련 있는 대표적환경적 요인으로 선정하였다. 본 연구는 노인의 사회적 참여 여부와 참여수준과 관련된 요인을 동시에 파악하기 위해서 개인적 요인 변수뿐만 아니라 환경적 요인 변수까지 포함시켜 헤크만 표본선택모형을 활용하였다. 분석결과 노인의 주거지역 환경, 주변 관계 네트워크 환경, 가족과의 관계 네트워크 환경이 모두 사회적 참여 여부와 수준에 동시에 영향을 주는 중요한환경적 요인으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 노인의 사회적 참여율을 향상시키고 사회적 참여수준을 향상시키기 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Most previous studies have proved that the participation in social activities and the level of social participation of older adults are often associated with individual characteristics. But some argue that there are some environmental factors related to encouraging older adults to participate in and to spend more time in social activities besides individual factors. In this light, this study is to examine what environmental factors that have not been emphasized by the previous studies in Korea, along with some individual factors, affect the decision and the level of social participation among older adults. Based on previous research, the residential area, the level of social network with friends, and the level of interaction with their adult children of older adults are selected as an independent variable for the analysis. And to examine both the decision and the level of social participation simultaneously, Heckman sample selection model is used. This study confirms that the residental area, the level of social network with friends, and the level of interaction with adult children were all related to both the decision and the level of social participation of older adults. Based on the results, some suggestions are made to enhance the social participation of older adults and to encourage those who are currently participating in social activities to become more active.
