국문 초록

이 글은 『동아일보』의 1920년대 전체 기사를 전수조사하여 ‘조선사 관련 기사’를 선별하고, 선별된 기사에 대한 양적 분석을 바탕으로 역사 서술의 변화 양상을 조감한 것이다. 동아일보는 정치적 독립이 요원한 상황에서 부르주아들이 경제적, 사회적 세력 확장을 기도하기 위한 미디어로 탄생했다. 이를 위해 동아일보는 문화운동을 추진했고 그 핵심적 의제 가운데 하나로 조선사에 많은 관심을 가졌다. 그렇지만 통계를 보면 1924년 이전에는 조선사 관련 기사의 빈도수가 많지 않음을 알 수 있다. 여러 혼란을 수습하는 과정을 거쳐 1925년 4월 이후 동아일보는 명실상부 부르주아 우파의 정치적 성향을 대변하는 신문이 된다. 문화운동의 거점이 될 지방의 역사에 대한 관심이 높아졌으며, 출옥 이후 잡지와 신문 경영에 어려움을 겪었던 최남선이 합류하면서 조선사 관련 기사의 빈도수도 증대했다. 그렇지만 문화운동의 실천성과 반대로 조선사의 내용은 관념적인 것으로 변해 갔다. 현실의 정치적 기반 확보를 도모했던 동아일보의 의도와는 달리 국가 없는 민족의 역사는 점차 정신적 측면을 강조하는 방향으로 나아갔고, 비실체화와 신화화의 경향을 띠게 되었다. 한편 최남선은 혼자서 전체 조선사 관련 기사의 20% 이상을 작성했지만, 이러한 표면적인 숫자와 달리 당대 그의 학문적 영향력은 크지 않았던 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This paper investigates all the articles in the 1920s Dong-a Ilbo, selects articles related to Korean history, and examines the changes in historical descriptions through statistical analysis. Dong-a Ilbo is a media created by bourgeois who aim to expand their economic and social power in a situation where political independence is severe. Dong-a Ilbo promoted the cultural movement and set the history of Korea at the center of discussion. However, statistics show that there were not many reports on Korean history before 1924. After April 1925, Dong-a Ilbo became newspapers that represented the political tendencies of the bourgeoisie. As the cultural movement begins, interest in the history of the region increases, and Choi Nam-Sun, who is struggling to run magazines and newspapers, joins, the number of articles related to Korean history increases. However, contrary to the practicality of the cultural movement, the content of Korean history has changed to ideological. Contrary to the Dong-a Ilbo s intention to secure a political foundation, the history of a nation without a state has changed to a spiritual one, and it has become a myth. Choi Nam-Sun wrote about 20 percent of all articles related to Korean history by himself, but contrary to the superficial figures, his academic influence at that time was not significant.
