『熱河日記』 伯夷 記事의 형상화 방식과 쓰기 전략

국문 초록

본 논문은 『熱河日記』 伯夷 기사의 형상화 방식을 살펴 燕巖의 은밀한 쓰기 전략을 이해하고 백이 기사가 지닌 의미에 대해 생각해 본 것이다. 먼저는 백이 신화의 형성 과정을 정리해보았다. 이를 바탕으로 백이 기사의 작가 의식을 살펴보고 연암이 어떠한 방식으로 백이 기사를 형상화하고 있는지를 분석해보았다. 백이 기사에는 세 개의 일화가 나오는데, 공통으로 고사리가 주요 소재로 등장했다. 연암은 고사리가 해를 끼치는 독물이라고 함으로써 백이 의리를 신봉해온 春秋 義理論者의 허위의식을 조롱하였다. 백이에 대해 풍자의 영역까지 나아간 작품은 백이 기사가 유일하다. 다음으로 연암이 어떤 방식으로 백이 기사를 형상화하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 첫 번째로, 백이 기사는 날짜를 재배치하고 입체적인 구성을 하였다. 󰡔열하일기󰡕 7월 27일의 백이 기사는 본래 7월 26일에 일어난 일이었다. 날짜를 바꾸어 일화를 수록한 것은 전략적인 배치였다. 7월 27일의 백이 기사는 과거의 이야기에 다시 더 과거의 일화 2개가 들어 있는 구성이고, 세 개의 일화는 입체적으로 구성되어 있었다. 연암은 과거를 이야기하는 방식으로 기술함으로써 자신이 글의 책임에서 벗어나고자 했다. 두 번째는 객관적 거리두기이다. 연암은 자신이 사건에 직접 개입하지 않고 거리두기를 하였다. 이는 자신에게 가해질 비난에서 빠져나가기 위한 쓰기 전략이다. 백이 기사에는 하나의 일화가 끝날 때마다 주위 사람들이 모두 웃었다는 표현이 나오는데, 이 또한 연암의 의도된 표현 방식이다. 세 번째는 사건의 戲畫化이다. 백이 기사에서 풍자의 칼끝은 대상 자체를 겨누는 것이 아니라 대상이 꺼낸 말에 있었다. 󰡔열하일기󰡕의 백이 기사에 이르러 백이는 희화화되고 춘추 의리는 조롱의 대상이 되었다. 연암은 노련한 쓰기 전략을 통해 풍자를 희석함으로써 일화가 과거의 가벼운 小品처럼 보이게 만들었다.

영문 초록

This study is to appreciate the writing strategy of YeomAm and its meaning of Baekui articles by reviewing the way of embodying those articles. The first approach is to sum up the process of making Baekui mythology. On this approach, the writer consciousness of Baekui articles is to be examined and the process of embodying to be analysed. In Baekui articles there are three episodes, in all the bracken is found as a key common element. YeonAm considered bracken as a harmful plant, in this way he ridiculed the empty formality of the supporters of the Spring & Autumn period of praising Baekui royalty. The Baekui articles are the only one satire work about Baekui. Then the way of embodying those Baekui articles is to be researched. Firstly, in Baekui articles there are rearranged dates and three-dimensional structures. in 󰡔Yeolhailggi󰡕 the Baekui article on 27th of June was the story happened actually on 26th of July. This is strategic rearrangement in writing. The article on 27th of July is rearranged and has three-dimensional structures of borrowing two more older previous episodes on the past story. He tried to be free from the responsibility of writing in a way of just rearranging and telling the past stories. Secondly, it is to make objective distance. YeonAm made a distance, not involving directly in the events by himself. It is the strategy of writing to be free from any expected criticism to himself. There are expressions about people laughing at final moments of each episode, it also is his intentional way of expression. Thirdly, it is to make caricature of story. The final target to be criticized in Baekui articles is not to the objects themselves, but to the talks of theirs. In Baekui articles of 『Yeolhailggi』, Baekui is to become caricatured and the fidelity of Spring & Autumn period to be ridiculed. YeonAm made intentionally the episodes light happening by diluting satire with skilled writing strategy.
