영문 초록

The wooden furniture in the Joseon dynasty has several features because of environmental factors. Most of the furniture was made of wood since 70 percentage of the land was mountainous, which provided rich wooden materials. Due to the climate of high temperature and humidity in summer and the coldness and dryness in winter, the wooden furniture may expand as well as contract, which causes twists and cracks in the furniture. In order to solve the problems, the unique technique called face division started to be used. By applying this technique even to the back side and inside not just the front side, they pursued the structural stability of the whole furniture. The wooden furniture in Joseon dynasty seemed to develop this structural feature into the formational beauty. So, here, the face division will be discussed by taking an example of two-story windows.
