국문 초록

본 논문은 경성제국대학 교육학 교수 마쓰즈키 히데오(松月秀雄, 1892-1993)의 개성교육론을 분석하고 이를 통해 19세기 말 20세기 초에 전세계적으로 전개된 신교육운동 사조가 조선에도 수용되는 하나의 양상을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 했다. 마쓰즈키는 도쿄제국대학 대학원 재학시기와 함부르크 유학시기에 그의 개성교육론을 형성했으며 경성제대 교육학 교수로 부임한 이후 이를 전개했다. 그의 개성교육론이란 개성을 과학적, 실험적 연구방법에 의해 조사된 것이라고 정의하고 개성교육을 교육목적이 아니라 교육방법에 국한한 것, 또한 개성을 신장시키기 위해 함부르크 공동사회학교의 자유작업과 위넷카 시스템의 능력에 따른 개별교수를 강조하고 이를 조사하기 위해 과학적, 심리학적 개성조사부를 제안하는 것이다. 이와 같은 마쓰즈키의 개성교육론이 일제 식민지기 교육학사의 전개과정에서 갖는 의의는 첫째 1920년대 조선에 신교육운동 사조가 조선에도 수용된 하나의 사례로 위치지울 수 있다는 점, 둘째 조선총독부의 교육정책과 일정 정도 긴장관계를 갖고 있었다는 점, 셋째 해방 후의 교육론에도 그 흔적을 일부 남기고 있다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to analyze the theory of Individual Education of Matsuzuki Hideo, a professor of education at Gyeongseong Imperial University, and to clarify an example of the acceptance of the thoughts of the New Educational Movement that developed worldwide in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Matsuzuki formed his theory of individual education as he studied at the Graduate School of Tokyo Imperial University and Hamburg and developed it after taking office as a professor of education at Gyeongseong Imperial University. His theory of individual education defined personality as a result of scientific and experimental research methods, limited individual education to educational methods, rather than educational purposes, and emphasized community schools’ (Gemeinschaftsschule) Free Work (Frei Beschäftigung) in Hamburg and personal education based on students’ ability in the Winetka System to develop individuality. Furthermore, he proposed writing scientific and psychological records to investigate the individuality of students. Matsuzuki’s theory of individual education in the development of educational history in Korea under Japanese rule is significant in that this is an example of the acceptance of the thoughts of the New Education Movement in Korea in the 1920s, that there was a certain tension with the education policy of the Governor-General of Korea, and that it seems to have had some influence on the theory of education after Liberation.
