국문 초록

우물은 축조 당시의 구조가 비교적 잘 남아있어 유적 내 주거 공간의 복원에 유용한 자료 중 하나다. 그러나 지금까지 통일신라시대의 우물에 관한 연구는 상대적으로 빈약한 편이다. 이러한 점에서, 본 연구는 통일신라시대의 왕경인 경주지역 우물의 축조 양상과 시공간적 전개를 통하여 왕경 내 공간에 대한 새로운 접근을 시도하였다. 우선 통일신라시대 경주지역 우물의 구조를 분류하고, 출토유물을 통해 각 구조의 시간적 속성을 검증하였다. 먼저, 우물 구조를 형태와 석축이라는 두 가지 기준을 바탕으로 분류하였다. 이 중 형태에 해당하는 깊이, 단면형태와 석축에 해당하는 석축 방법, 석재에서 유의미한 차이가 확인되었다. 또한, 일부 구조는 일정 공간에 집중적으로 축조되어 분포권을 형성하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 내부출토 유물을 통해 각 우물 구조의 시간성과 공간성을 검토하였다. 우물 구조의 시간적 변화는 크게 두 단계로 설정할 수 있다. 1단계는 7세기에서 8세기 중반까지로, 얕은 원통형(ⅠＣ형)이나 중간 깊이의 원통형(ⅡＣ형)이 확 인된다. 2단계는 8세기 후반부터 9세기 후반까지로, 중간 깊이의 상협하광형(ⅡＢ형)이 주로 동천동 일대에서 확인된다. 한편, 그보다 깊은 상협하광형(ⅢＢ형)은 월성을 중심으로 전 단계에 걸쳐 확인된다. 마지막으로, 이를 통해 통일신라시대 우물의 전개양상과 그 축조 배경을 알아보았다. 우물은 왕경의 개발과 밀접한 관련 속에서 축조되었다. 여기에는 경주의 지리적 환경과 더불어 인구의 증가, 방리제를 통한 왕경의 정비가 간접적인 영향을 준 것으로 보인다. 즉, 통일신라 경주지역의 우물은 왕경을 안정적으로 유지하기 위해 축조된 기반시설의 하나로서 이해된다.

영문 초록

Archaeologically found wells have an intact structure that it is useful in Restoration of living spaces in sites. However, they have not been dealt with properly in archeological studies of the Unified Silla. In this respect, this thesis made a new attempt to spaces in the royal district through construction of wells and its temporal and spatial development. To this end, this thesis categorised the structures of wells In Gyeongju and verified their temporal attributes though the excavated artifacts. First of all, attributes were classified by two criteria: form and masonry. As a result, meaningful differences were found in depth, cross section shape which are related to form and building stone, wallstone stacking method which are related to masonry. Moreover, some structures of wells were concentrated in a certain section of the royal district, forming a sphere. The following process was verifying the temporal and spatial arttributes through the excavated artifacts inside the wells. Two phases could be established. The first phase dates from 7th to mid 8th century when shallow cylindrical wells(ⅠC) and medium-deep cylindrical wells(ⅡＣ) took up the main structure. The Second phase dates from late 8th century to late 9th century when main structure altered to lower-wide well(ⅢＢ)with medium depth, which is found mainly in Dongcheon-dong. Meanwhile, deeper lower-wide wells(ⅢＢ) were constructed in all phased and are centered around Wolseong. Lastly, this thesis analysed the temporal and spatial differences of the wells in hydrological point. As a result, It could be found that structure of the wells in Gyeongju variates in a way that can raise bigger amount of water. These variation was accomplished through the development of the masonry skills applied to construction of the wells. After all the analysis, the wells in Gyeongju were positioned systematically with connection to drains and walls. Since they were consequentially connected to drainage affiliated with roads, they played a role as the lowest facilities in the water supply system. Therefore, the wells in Gyeongju were constructed in the background of the development of the royal district. Moreover, increase in population and social advance are estimated to have the secondary influence. Thus, the wells in Gyeongju in the Unified Silla should be taken as one of the infrastructures constructed for stable maintenance of the capital.
