국문 초록

본 연구는 환경회계 도입과 환경정보공시 확대에 대한 당위성을 검증하기 위해 환경관련정보가 언론에 보도된 날을 전후로 하여 비정상수익률이 나타나는 가를 측정하였다. 검증대상은 2000년부터 2002년에 환경오염적발 보도된 88건과 환경친화기업으로 보도된 40건이다. 검증방법은 추정기간을 300일로 하고 시장모형에 의해서 보도일과 보도일 전후 각 3일, 총 7일의 일간비정상수익률을 검증하였다. 검증 결과 환경오염적발 보도된 사건에 대해서는 보도일과 보도일 후 3일(+3일)에 유의적인 음의 비정상수익률이 발견되었다. 그러나 환경친화기업 관련보도에서는 여러 가지 측정상의 문제로 인하여 유의적인 결과가 나오지 않았다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the relationship between indicators of corporate environmental performance, environmental disclosures, and financial performance within a comprehensive theoretical framework. The relationship between the environmental or social performance, the financial performance, and the environmental disclosures have been a topic of interest and serious empirical researches on the association between financial, environmental, and disclosures indicators. This study is undertaken to determine if economic incentives exist form compliance with regulatory standards, and if accounting related disclosure of regulatory enforcement actions is a determinant of environmental performance. Results indicate that economic or financial incentives may exist form environmental measures and thus environmental performance. But this study finds no strong evidence that financial performance either precedes or is lag with environmental performance. This study also finds no strong evidence that environmental performance relates with firms environmental disclosures. These results suggest a need for more public policy role for accounting disclosure as an alternative for regulatory enforcement.
