密庵 李栽 문파의 사상적 성향

국문 초록

조선의 성리학은 퇴계의 학설과 이에 대한 비판에서 출발한다. 특히 율곡학파의 퇴계학 비판은 조선 성리학의 함의를 매우 풍부하게 만들었다. 한편 이현일은 퇴계의 성리설을 옹호하면서 퇴계학의 위상을 확립하려고 하였는데, 그의 이러한 시도는 아들인 이재와 그의 후학들에 의하여 계승되었다. 밀암 이재 문파의 사상적 성향은 거시적으로 보아, 퇴계의 ‘理氣互發說’에 대한 강화와 변론, 그리고 복귀로 정리될 수 있다. 이현일과 이재가 퇴계학의 정수인 理發을 강조하였다면, 이재의 문도인 이상정과 이광정은 ‘理發’과 ‘理氣不相離’의 논지를 모두 강화하는 입장을 견지했다. 이현일과 이재의 목적이 율곡학파의 비판에 대한 공박의 목적이 컸다하면, 후대인 이상정과 이광정의 경우 이론적 치밀성을 담보하여 퇴계설에 잠재된 논란의 여지를 미연에 방지하고자 했던 의도가 있었다고 보인다. 이러한 이재 후학의 이기설은 김낙행에 의해 다시 퇴계설의 본의로 복귀한 면모가 있다. 결론적으로 이재 문파의 사상의 내면에는 퇴계의 이기설이 면면히 흐르면서 때로는 퇴계설을 강화하는 쪽으로, 때로는 변론하는 면모를 보여주면서 끝내는 원류로 복귀하는 모습을 보여주었다고 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Neo-Confucianism of the Joseon dynasty began with Toegye’s theories and critics about them. Particularly, Yulgok school’s critics about Toegye’s theories enriched discussions of neo-Confucianism of the Joseon dynasty. In the meantime, Yi, Hyun-il tried to establish the status of the Toege school while supporting Toegye’s theory of Xing-li(性理說). His efforts were succeeded by his son, Yi Hae and his disciples. Broadly, the theoretical trend of Milam Yi, Jae school can be said as the trend of strengthening and defending of Toegye’s theory of the simultaneous reaction of li and qi(理氣互發說) and returning to the Toegye’s theory. While Yi, Hyun-il and Yi, Jae emphasized the birth of li (理發), Yi, Jae’s disciples, Yi, Sang-jeong and Yi, Kwang-jeong supported the status of strengthening both the theory of the birth of li (理發) and the theory of li and ki not being separated (理氣不相離). The purposes of Yi, Hyun-il and Yi, Jae were to defend the critics of Yulgok school. In the meantime, Yi, Sang-jeong and Yi, Kwang-jeong armed with theoretical accuracies seemed to purposely prevent controversial arguments hidden in the Toegye’s theory in advance. These Yi Jae’s disciples’ theory of li and ki showed the return to the original theory of Toege by Kim, Nak-haeng. In conclusion, it can be argued that the theory of Yi Jae school strengthened the Toegye’s theory, sometimes defended the Toegye’s theory and finally returned to the Toegye’s theory while it continuously maintained the Toegye’s theory of li and ki.
