「虯髥客傳」에 대한 中韓 학자들의 이해

국문 초록

본고는 중국의 唐傳奇 「虯髥客傳」의 作者와 虯髥客의 原型에 대한 中韓학자들의 理解를 다루되 후자에 중점을 두었다. 작품은 대부분 실존했던 인물을 등장시켰기 때문에 규염객도 실존인물일 것이라는 추정에서 원형 연구가 비롯되었다. 저자는 중국의 경우 杜光庭으로 거의 견해가 모아지고, 한국은 張說설이 주를 이룬다. 인물 원형은 중국은 西京인 張仲堅설이 유력시되어 있고, 한국은 淵蓋蘇文설에 무게가 싣는다. 양국이 원형 추정에서 전혀 상이한 주장이 제기되고, 원형이 있는데 실명을 밝히지 않은 점이 화제다. 인물의 원형은 중국의 장중견설보다 한국의 연개소문설이 더욱 근접해 보인다. 그 이유는 고구려는 부여와 관련 있고, 호걸의 성격에 잔인한 일면을 겸했고, 중국을 두루 편력했으며, 왕을 시해하고 최고의 권력인 莫離支로 된 것 등에서 연개소문은 규염객과 비교가 되기 때문이다. 소설이 실명을 밝히지 않은 이유는 문학적 허구로 볼 수도 있겠지만 어느 정도 민족적 忌避문제도 있어 보인다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to conduct a research on Chinese and South Korean scholars’ understandings about the author and, especially, the prototype of Chinese Tang Dynasty Legend 「Gyu yeom-gaek Legend(虯髥客傳)」. Due to the fact that most of the characters in this novel can find their models in real world, it can be assumed that Gyu yeom-gaek is also a real life person. However, different researchers have different opinions on the author and prototype of Gyu yeom-gaek. In China, Du gwang-jeong(杜光庭) is considered as the author of this legend, while in South Korea, Jang seol(張說) is. As to the prototype, in China, the view of Jang jung-geyon(張仲堅) who lived in Seogyeong(西京) is much valued, while the view of Yeon gaesomun (淵蓋蘇文) is much acceptable in South Korea. Obviously, completely different assumptions about the prototype could be observed between these two countries. Though the prototype of this character did exist, it never had been clarified. Therefore, different types of inference and explanation were produced. It seems that the view of Yeon gaesomun is more persuasive than that of Jang jung-gyeon. The reason can be raised as below. Goguryeo has certain relationship with Buyeo. The character with a heroic and brutal personality has traveled throughout China, killed the king and managed to be the supreme power Makriji(莫離支). From all of these sides, it can be concluded that Yeon gaesomun is much similar to Gyu yeom-gaek. Concerning about the issue that why the novel had not showed the prototype clearly, two assumptions could be recommended. Firstly, the novel probably be a pure literary fiction, therefore, there is no prototype. Secondly, there is also high possibility that, by not revealing the real model of prototype, the author aimed to avoid a series of sensitive ethnic problems.
