晩靜堂 徐宗泰의 燕行詩 硏究

국문 초록

본 논문은 晩靜堂 徐宗泰(1652~1719)가 癸未年(1703, 숙종29) 燕行 당시에 창작한 燕行詩를 고찰한 글이다. 이 글에서는 지금까지 접근이 이루어지지 않은 『晚靜堂遺稿』 所載 燕行詩를 중심으로 徐宗泰의 燕行詩에 드러난 주된 주제와 특징적 양상을 고찰하였다. 먼저 徐宗泰의 癸未年 燕行과 관련된 자료 가운데 『晚靜堂遺稿』에 수록된 日錄과 燕行詩는 그의 燕行記錄을 온전히 담고 있는 텍스트라는 점에서 자료적 가치가 높으며, 17세기의 燕行錄 저술 방식의 일면을 엿볼 수 있는 자료라는 점에서 가치가 있다. 徐宗泰의 燕行詩에 드러난 주된 주제와 특징적 양상은 “燕行路程의 인상적인 風情 묘사”와 “淸에 대한 반감과 大明義理의 고취”로 요약된다. “燕行路程의 인상적인 風情 묘사”에서 살펴본 작품에서는 燕行路程에서 거치게 된 지역의 단순한 풍광 묘사에 그치지 않고 그 지역의 勝景, 역사, 경제 등 다양한 風情을 면밀히 담아내려 했던 徐宗泰의 기록의식이 돋보였다. 또 그가 이전 紀行詩에서 자주 활용하던 律詩 뿐만 아니라 古詩와 連作의 絶句 등 다양한 형식을 詩作에 활용하는 경향을 보였다. 그 가운데 『箕城雜詠』과 『孝娥歌』와 같은 작품은 당대에 손꼽히던 詩人이었던 昆侖 崔昌大(1669~1720)가 大家의 작품이라고 극찬할 정도로 뛰어난 작품이다. “淸에 대한 반감과 大明義理의 고취”에서는 徐宗泰가 당대에 누구보다도 崇明背淸의 확고한 입장을 견지하였던 인물이었던 점에 주목하여 이러한 인식이 그의 燕行詩에 어떻게 드러나는지를 중심으로 고찰하였다. 徐宗泰에게 癸未年 燕行은 자신이 文明國으로 인정하기 힘든 淸왕조의 현실을 직접 목도하는 동시에 융성했던 明왕조의 흔적과 역사를 회고하는 과정이었다. 徐宗泰는 燕行路程에서 淸나라의 천하로 변해버린 中原의 현실을 직접 목도하면서 울분과 한탄을 금하지 못했으며, 사라져 버린 明나라의 문명에 대한 그리움과 한탄을 그가 특장을 보였던 古體詩를 비롯한 다양한 형식을 활용하여 詩作에 담아내었다. 『寧遠城感憶袁經略崇煥』과 『夜坐亡聊次金息菴燕館感懷韻』등이 대표적인 작품이다. 이러한 작품은 낯선 異域의 풍광과 그 감회를 기록한 紀行詩의 성격을 지니는 동시에 자신이 견지했던 崇明背淸의 의지를 적극적으로 표출한 작품이라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study explored the travel poem written by Manjeongdang(晩靜堂) Seo Jong-tae(1652~1719) when he traveled to Beijing as an envoy in 1703. This study examined the main theme and distinct characteristics of Seo Jong-tae’s travel poem by focusing on the Manjeongdangyugo-themed travel poem which has not been studied until now. First, among the materials related to travel to Beijing in 1703, the record and travel poem in Manjeongdangyugo hold the significant value for reflecting the Seo’s record of travel to Beijing and for showing how travel journals were written in 17th century. The main theme and distinct characteristics found in the travel poem by Seo are summarized as “Description on impressive aspects in paths to Beijing” and “Inspiration of Repulsion Against Qing Dynasty and Loyalty to Ming Dynasty”. For the oem about “Description on impressive appearance of paths to Beijing”, Seo tried to record not only the view of the paths but also the various aspects such as beautiful scenery, history, and economy of the regions. In the Chinese poem-style works, Seo also utilized various forms including monostrophic poem he mainly utilized in previous travel poetry and quatrain used in old style poem and serial poems. Among the works, [Gisungjapyeong] and [Hyoaga] were highly praised by Gonryun(昆侖) Choi Chang-dae(1669~1720), the best poet of the time, as the poetry works by the great master. In “Inspiration of Repulsion Against Qing Dynasty and Loyalty to Ming Dynasty”, this study focused on the point that Seo insisted a firm ground on loyalty to Ming Dynasty and rejection against Qing Dynasty more than anyone else and explored how such thoughts were expressed in his travel poem. To Seo, travel to Beijing in 1703 was the process of witnessing the reality of Qing Dynasty which he couldn’t admit as a civilized country and recollecting the remains and history of Ming Dynasty that once flourished. On his way to Beijing, he resented and lamented after witnessing the reality of China that turned into the country of Qing Dynasty and he expressed his longing and lamentation for the lost civilization of the Ming Dynasty by utilizing various forms including the old style poem in his poems. These poems are represented by [Yeongwonsung Gamukwon Kyeongraksunghwan(寧遠城感憶袁經略崇煥)] and [Yajwamangryo Chagimsikam Yeongwangamhuiwoon(夜坐亡聊次金息菴燕館感懷韻)]. These poems record the scenery of strange lands and his feelings as the travel poems while actively expressing his strong will for loyalty to Ming Dynasty and rejection against Qing Dynasty.
