국문 초록

斗室 沈象奎(1766~1838)는 18세기 말~19세기 전반 경화세족의 문화를 대표하는 인물 중의 한 명이다. 본고는 심상규의 『斗室存稿』 수록 시문을 대상으로 그의 작품세계의 한 국면을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 그의 문학을 이해하는 여러 키워드 가운데 본고에서 주목한 것은 東坡, 즉 蘇軾에 대한 애호이다. 『두실존고』에 수록된 동파 次韻·拈韻 詩는 모두 22題 36首이다. 대체로 다른 문인들과 주고받은 시들이거나 詩會에서 지은 것들로서, 그의 동파 애호가 당시의 문화적 풍토와 무관하지 않음을 보여준다. 그 외 동파와 관련 있는 작품들은 19편으로 확인된다. 본문에서는 먼저 심상규의 동파 숭상이 나타난 작품을 살펴보고, 이어서 동파 작품을 활용한 시문 창작의 예를 검토하였다. 심상규는 중국 문인들의 동파 숭상에 공감하는 시를 지었으며, 翁樹崐과의 교유에서도 그러한 마음을 표출하였다. 만년에는 동파의 삶과 자신의 삶을 대비하여 동파에 대한 동일시를 보이기도 하였다. 유배된 처지에서 동파와의 동일시 근거를 발견했던 申欽이나 金正喜와 달리 심상규는 시련 속에서 ‘不朽’를 획득한 동파의 삶을 동경하고 있음이 주목된다. 이는 19세기 경화세족의 동파 이해를 보여주는 하나의 사례이다. 작품 수용 양상은 동파 시의 意境과 정서를 차용하는 방식, 그리고 동파의 시구와 일화를 典故로 활용하는 방식으로 나타난다. 전자의 경우 소식과 蘇轍의 우애를 시적 정서로 활용한 사례, 차운시에서 동파 시의 의경을 빌려온 예가 있다. 후자는 동파 관련 전고의 활용을 통해 작품의 의미에 깊이를 더하고 시의를 효과적으로 표현한 경우이다. 옛 시인의 시구를 전거로 활용하는 것은 일반적인 한시의 작법이지만, 심상규 문학에서는 그 주된 원천이 동파 작품에 있다는 것이 특징적이다. 본고의 논의는 19세기의 주요 작가인 심상규 문학의 한 특징을 보여주는 동시에 이 시기 경화세족의 문화적 경향을 보다 심도 있게 고찰하게 해준다는 의의가 있다. 그가 가까이 교유했던 申緯, 金祖淳, 南公轍 등이 모두 동파 애호를 보여주는 인물들이라는 점에서 더욱 그러하다. 한편 본고의 분석은 심상규와 마찬가지로 동파의 시구와 일화를 작품 창작에 활용했던 趙熙龍 등 다른 작가와의 비교를 통해 더욱 구체화될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Doosil (斗室) Shim Sang-kyu (沈象奎) was one of the leading figures in the culture of the noble classes of Hanyang (京華世族) in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The purpose of this paper is to examine one aspect of his world of pieces, targeting the poetry of Shim Sang-kyu s Doosil’s Collection (斗室存稿). Among the many keywords that understand his literature, the main focus of this paper is his love of Dōngpō, or Sū shì (蘇軾). A total of 36 poems containing 22 themes included in Doosil’s Collection are the poems with borrowed rhymes from Dōngpō’s poems. Most of them are poems exchanged with other writers or written in meetings with friends, which show that his adoration of Dōngpō was not independent of the cultural climate at the time. Besides these, 19 other pieces related to Dōngpō are identified in Doosil’s Collection. In this paper, I first examined the pieces in which Shim Sang-kyu s veneration toward Dōngpō appears, and then I examined examples of creation of poems using the Dōngpō pieces. Shim Sang-kyu wrote poems that sympathized with the veneration toward Dōngpō by Chinese writers, and he expressed such feelings in his fellowship with Weng Shukun (翁樹崐). In his later years, he equated his life to that of Dōngpō after comparing both of their lives. Unlike Shin Heom (申欽) and Kim Jung-hee (金正喜), who found grounds for equating themselves with Dōngpō in exile, Shim Sang-kyu paid attention to the life of Dōngpō, who had won an eternal honor in the ordeal. This is a notable example of the understanding of Dōngpō by the noble classes of Hanyang in the 19th century. The aspect of accepting Dōngpō‘s pieces is represented by borrowing the poetic conceptions and feelings of Dōngpō and by using his phrases and anecdotes in poems as precedents and ancient events (典故). In the former case, there are examples of using brotherly love with Sū Zhé (蘇轍) to express poetic feeling and borrowing poetic images from Dōngpō in his poems with borrowed rhymes. The latter is the case in which the use of precedents and ancient events related to Dōngpō added depth to the meaning of pieces and effectively expresses the author’s poetic meanings. The use of the old poet’s phrases in poems as precedents and ancient events was a common method of creating poems, but it is particular characteristic of Shim Sang-kyu’s literature that the main source is Dōngpō’s pieces. The discussion of this paper is meaningful in that it shows a characteristic of Shim Sang-kyu’s literature, a major writer of the 19th century, while also giving a deeper look at the cultural trends of the noble classes of Hanyang during this period. This is especially true in that Shin Wi (申緯), Kim Cho-soon (金祖淳), Nam Gong-cheol (南公轍), etc., with whom he was close, were all figures who showed affection for Dōngpō. Meanwhile, the analysis of this paper needs to be more concrete through comparison with other writers such as Cho Hee-ryong (趙熙龍), who used Dōngpō s phrases in poems and anecdotes to create his pieces, just like Shim Sang-kyu.
