韓末의 전쟁서사시 『望金城百五十韻』연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 한말 전기의병으로 활약한 小雲 金會鍾(1852~1916)의 전쟁서사시 『望金城百五十韻』을 고찰한 것이다. 이 시는 1896년에 봉기한 의성의 병진이 해산한 4년 뒤에 작성된 298句 1490字의 五言古詩로, 세칭 ‘望金城詩’라고도 불리운다. 긴장과 이완을 반복하는 이 시의 서사는 현재와 과거를 넘나들며 의병의 활동상을 회고하여, 개인의 전쟁 경험을 핍진하게 묘사하였다. 그리고 褒貶을 동반한 역사 인물의 用事를 통해, 한말 지식인의 서정을 함축적이고 비유적으로 그려내었다. 이 시는 ‘현재-과거-현재’의 구성을 취한다는 점에서 한문서사시로서 전형성을 띠며, 사실 준거와 역사의식을 드러내는 注의 활용이 대폭 확대되었다는 점에서 한말 한문서사시로서 특수성을 띤다. 그리고 조탁과 기교를 배제한 채 시대적 고뇌와 개인적 심회를 시에 담박하게 담아낸 점, 전쟁의 공포와 時事에 대한 불만 등의 부정적 정서와 긍정적 정서를 함께 반영한 점 역시 특기할 만하다. 전쟁의 실체험을 기반으로 하여 한말의 시대상과 지식인의 의식을 그대로 반영한 『望金城百五十韻』은 諸家의 평가대로 ‘詩史’로서의 성격을 갖추고 있으며, 한말에도 한문학이 문학적 기능이 여전히 활발히 수행하고 있음을 확인할 수 있는 자료라는 점에서 큰 가치를 지닌다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the war epic 『Manggeumseong Baegosibun(望金城百五十韻)』 written by Soun(小雲) Kim Hoejong(金會鍾, 1852~1916) who used to work as the early Righteous Army soldier at the end of the Korean Empire period. Also known as ‘Manggeumseongsi(望金城詩)’, the poem, based on a Oeon Gosi(五言古詩) format composed of 298 verses and 1490 characters, was written four years after the disbandment of the Uiseong(義城)-based Righteous Army in 1896. The narration of the poem with repetitive tension and relaxation is focused on looking back on the Righteous Army’s activities, coming and going between the present and past, and describing the individual’s war experience realistically. It also shows the lyricism of the intelligentsia at the end of Korean Empire in an implicative and metaphorical way through quotation(用事) from historical persons and criticism(褒貶). The time frame of “Present-Past-Present” shows a typical feature of classical Chinese epic poem. Particularly, it has a distinct characteristic of classical Chinese epic poem as well, of the end of the Korean Empire period, with enhanced use of notes(注) exposing the historical consciousness and conformity to fact. Furthermore, it is worthy of special mention as it describes the agony of the times and individual s emotion plainly, without poetic elaboration and technique, and shows the negative emotionality such as the fear of war and dissatisfaction over current affairs(時事), and the positive one like pride and hope. Clearly reflecting the times of the end of the Korean Empire period and the consciousness of the intelligentsia on the basis of actual war experience, 『Manggeumseongsi(望金城詩)』 shows its distinct characteristics as the ‘poetical history(詩史)’ in many aspects. It has an enormous value as a proof that Sino-Korean Literature still performed a literary function even at the end of Korean Empire period.
