조선 사대부의 공간 관념과 문학적 표현 양상

국문 초록

이 논문은 한국한문학에 나타난 조선 사대부의 공간 관념과 그것의 문학적 표현에 대한 연구를 목적으로 삼는다. 한문학 작품에서 공간이 명명될 때, 그것의 인식 주체는 주로 사대부의 신분을 가진 사람들이며, 공간의 명칭은 그들의 뜻을 표지한다. 이것은 사대부들이 주거 공간과 자신을 일체적으로 이해하려는 경향에서 비롯된다. 특별한 명칭과 의미를 부여받아 개조된 공간을, 그들은 자신의 삶을 규범화하는 기제로 이용하며 그와 같은 삶을 염원하였다. 이 때문에 자연적이고 객관적인 공간이 때로는 哲理的이고 때로는 文學的인 가치와 의미를 부여받으며 節制와 情緖의 공간으로 새롭게 규정되었다. 즉 단순한 주거와 생활의 공간을 넘어서 작가의 사상, 관념을 체현한 구체적 매체로 조성되는 것이다. 그렇다면 조선 사대부들이 거주 공간에 가치와 의미를 부여하고 실천하고자 한 배경은 물질적인 향유보다 사상적인 측면에서의 도덕적인 자기완성 즉 내면적 수양의 추구가 자리한다. ‘爲己之學’으로 압축되는 이 사상이 조선의 전시기에 걸쳐 사대부 인격수양의 교조가 되면서 명예, 이익, 부귀, 사치, 향락을 추구하는 태도는 ‘사대부적 윤리’의 미명하에 제재를 받았다. 이 때문에 사대부들은 그들의 실제 생활과 격차 있는 관념적이고 도덕적인 청빈, 검소, 절제를 추구하는 생활 자세를 추구하게 되었다. 다른 하나는, 전통적이고 이상적인 공간 관념의 문학적 표현 때문이다. 陶淵明의 ‘歸去來’, ‘容膝易安’등은 시공간적으로 상당한 차이가 있지만 성현이 추구한 安貧樂道의 철학 관념과 공간 관념을 계승하고 있다는 점에서 동일하다. 이 때문에 사대부들은 이곳을 그들이 지향하고 추구해야 할 최종적이고 이상적인 공간으로 간주하며 문학작품 속에서 다양하게 반복적이고 지속적으로 되새겼다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to study the spatial concepts and the literary expressions of the Joseon nobility in Korean chinese literature. When we name a space in Korea Chinese literature, its subject is mostly nobles, and its name represents the meaning they gave us. It stems from the tendency of the Joseon nobles to identify themselves with living spaces. A space modified with a special name and meaning, they thought of it as a normative theme of their lives and hoped to live the same life as space represented. Natural space was sometimes endowed with philosophical and literary values and meanings. Space has become a symbol of the residents self-control and emotions. The reason Joseon nobles wanted to give value and meaning to the living space is the pursuit of moral self-fulfilling and internal training. It is summed up in the term ‘the study of self-discipline[爲己之學]’. As it is an important guide to the character-building of Joseon nobles, the pursuit of fame, profit, wealth, luxury, and pleasure has been sanctioned by the name of ‘the ethics of nobles.’ So, this has led the nobles to pursue an ideological and moral life that is different from their real life. The other reason is the literary expression of traditional and idealistic spatial concepts. Do-yeon-myung(陶淵明)’ typical spatial ideas are homecoming after one s resignation from a government office[歸去來] and a small, comfortable place barely enough for one s knees[容膝易安]. His spatial sense inherits of the sages pursue’spatial sense that is Ahn Bin-nak-do. So, nobles regarded his spatial perception as a spatial recognition that they should ultimately pursue. And represented variously his spatial consciousness in their literary work.
