이상의 산문에 나타난 자기 분열의 글쓰기 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 자기 분열의 글쓰기를 중심으로 소설과 수필 등 이상 산문의 전개 과정을 분석한 것이다. 이에 따르면 이상의 글쓰기는 자아가 ‘결핵에 걸리지 않은 나’와 ‘결핵에 걸린 나’, 그리고 이 두 자아의 이접적 종합으로서의 ‘나’로 분열된 것이 원형이 된다. 이 가운데 ‘결핵에 걸린 나’와 ‘결핵에 걸리지 않은 나’는 장르 선택과 작품 내용에 따라 ‘서울을 그리워하는 나’와 ‘서울을 그리워하지 않는 나’(수필 ｢산촌 여정｣) 또는 ‘여인을 사랑하는 나’와 ‘여인을 사랑하지 않는 나’(｢날개｣를 비롯한 소설들) 등으로 변형된다. 그리하여 이 분열된 자아들이 벌이는 기호놀이가 이상 문학의 주요 내용이 된다. 이러한 기호놀이에서 주요 계기가 된 것은 결핵과 사랑이다. 곧 결핵과 사랑을 계기로 한 기호놀이를 통해 이상은 글쓰기에서만큼은 죽음으로부터의 탈주를 기획했던 것이다. 이러한 탈주는 결핵에 대해서는 분열된 자아 중 ‘결핵에 걸린 나’를 중심으로, 사랑에 대해서는 ‘여인을 사랑하는 나’를 중심으로 전개된다. 이 가운데 ｢날개｣ 이후의 소설들은 여인과의 사랑과 관련된 기호놀이를 소설의 주요 내용으로 삼아 ‘여인을 사랑하는 나’와 ‘나를 사랑하지 않는 여인’ 간의 대결을 그리고 있다. 그러나 결핵이 깊어지고 여인과의 사랑이 실패하면서 이 자기 분열은 변화를 겪는다. ‘결핵에 걸리지 않은 나’는 존재 근거가 없어짐에 따라 결국 ‘결핵에 걸린 나’는 실제의 ‘나’와 같아지며(수필 ｢권태｣), ‘여인을 사랑하지 않는 나’도 소설에서 사라진다. 그러나 이러한 변화에도 불구하고 기호놀이는 더욱 격렬하게 진행되고, 이에 따라 ‘죽음으로써 결핵을 벗어나는 나’ 또는 ‘사랑의 끝남을 인정하는 나’라는 자아가 파생되어 나타난다. 특히 ｢종생기｣에서는 글쓰기 공간에서만큼은 죽음에의 공포를 벗어나기를 ‘여인을 사랑하는 나’와 ‘사랑의 끝남을 인정하는 나’의 이접적 종합으로서의 글쓰기의 ‘나’가 등장하여 반복을 통한 ‘종생기’의 지속을 시도한다. 그만큼 ｢종생기｣는 ‘비밀’(속임수와 기호놀이)로 이루어진 글쓰기이자 이상의 글쓰기 방법을 집대성한 종합판이었던 것이다.

영문 초록

This study intends to approach the developmental process of writing of self-division carried out by Lee Sang. In Lee Sang s writings, his ego is first divided into I who do not have tuberculosis and I who have tuberculosis , and then the I is created by combining these two selves disjunctively( disjoint synthesis ). By Lee Sang s genre selection and work content, I who have tuberculosis and I who do not have tuberculosis are transformed into I who miss Seoul and I who do not miss Seoul (in essay ｢산촌여정｣) ). Or it is transformed into ‘I who love woman’ and ‘I who do not love woman’ (in novels including ｢날개｣). The main contents of Lee Sang s literature consist of the play of signs played by these divided selves. The main objects of these play of signs are tuberculosis and love. By the play of signs with tuberculosis and love, Lee Sang planned ‘escape from death’ through writing of self-division . Lee Sang s escape is performed with I who have tuberculosis for tuberculosis, and with I who love a woman for love. After ｢날개｣, the main content of Lee Sang s novels is the play of signs with love with a woman. These novels depict the conflict between I who love woman and woman who do not love me . However, as tuberculosis deepens and love with a woman fails, Lee Sang s ‘writing of self-division’ changes. As seen in essay ｢권태｣, the existence of I who did not have tuberculosis disappears, so ‘I who have tuberculosis’ becomes the same as the real I . I who do not love woman also disappears from writing. However, despite these changes, the play of signs is performed more intensely. Thus, a new self emerges as I who am free from tuberculosis by dying or I who am acknowledging the end of love . In particular, in ｢종생기｣, in order to escape the fear of death, I who combined the two divided selves( I who love woman and I who acknowledges the end of love ) disproportionately appears. This ‘I’ attempts to continue the writing for the end of dying through repetition. In the end, ｢종생기｣ was written by writing consisting of “secrets” that are created by the tricks and the play of signs. This work is the culmination of writing of self-division performed by Lee Sang.
