영문 초록

This study explores to develop tables safer and more comfortable when the old in the nursing home sit on the floor and have a meal. Seven students in the department of Living Furniture Design and three in the department of Nursing co-worked. Sitting tables as a dining table at nursing home were developed through a design process based on the research of phys-ical and mental characteristics of the elderly. In particular, they were designed for the elderly with muscle rigidity and curved legs difficult to be stretched or bent. These prototypes of the sitting table were produced so that elderly’s legs were fit into the table top plate and also the table were able to be portable by folding. They were donated to the nursing home. Through this study, students increased their understanding of universal design for social consideration and also felt the need to develop living furniture for the increasing silver generation. Participants were able to foster creatively thinking ability beyond academic boundaries.
