암석과 광물에 대한 초ㆍ중학교 과학교과서 내용 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 제 7차 교육과정에 따라서 집필된 4학년에서 7학년까지 초·중학교 과학교과서의 광물과 암석 단원의 본문 진술을 분석하여 과학교육에 시사점을 찾아보는 것이다. 연구결과 광물 영역에서는 원소의 도입 과정이 교육과정 계열성이 맞지 않게 제시되어있고, 광물의 색과 모스 굳기계는 단순 암기형식으로 제시되어있었으며, 불순물이 포함된 광물색이 제시되어 있었다. 암석 영역에서는 화성암의 구분 기준이 조립질과 세립질에 대한 설명이 크기의 정량적 개념 대신에 정성적으로 단순하게 기재되어 있고, 동일한 마그마에서 화강암과 현무암이 생성되는 그림이 제시되어 오개념을 유발할 수 있게 보였다. 변성암에서는 편리와 엽리가 구분되지 않고 제시되어있고, 응회암이 화성기원과 퇴적기원의 논쟁이 있음에도 불구하고 퇴적암으로 분류되어 있었다. 변성암은 모암과 변성암의 관계가 계열성 없이 제시되어있고 용어가 통일되어있지 않았다. 이러한 분석결과를 통하여 새로운 교과서를 집필 시 체계적인 분류기준을 고려할 필요가 있다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

The aim of this research is to analyze statements contained in a chapter concerning minerals and rocks in elementary/middle-school science textbooks that have been newly written for 4th to 7th grade students in accordance with the 7th curriculum, in order to further our science education. There are several flaws that the research has discovered: the definitions of minerals are not presented well in harmony with curriculum branches; the way mineral colors and the Mohs scale of mineral hardness are presented require simple memorizing; they include adulterated mineral colors. A classification criterion for rocks such as coarse-grained and fine-grained was simply illustrated without any explanation about their sizes while there is a misleading picture that depicts the generation of granites and basalt from same magma. Also, there is no distinction between schistosity and foliation regarding metamorphic rocks while tuff is simply categorized as sedimentary rocks despite the fact that its origin, whether from igneous or sedimentary rocks, is under dispute. In case of metamorphic rocks, the relation between the parent rocks and metamorphic rocks are reported without details on their systemic relations and the terminology on the subject is not consistent. These results should be reflected in new textbooks during their design.
