극형식 한량무에 내재된 키치(Kitsch)요소 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 현대 대중문화를 대표하는 아이콘으로 급성장한 키치(Kitsch)를 극형식 한량무에 접목시켜 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 아브라함 몰르가 제시한 키치 분류 기준을 바탕으로 한량무의 키치적 요소들을 살펴본 결과 첫째, 등장인물이 가지고 있는 일반적인 이미지와는 달리 본질에서 왜곡되어진 ‘이미지의 일탈현상’이 나타나며 키치의 부적합성이 나타났다. 둘째, 뒷풀이 춤마당을 통해 키치의 누적성이 나타났다. 셋째, 쉽게 이해되고 친밀하게 느껴지는 향수 부분에서 키치의 쾌적성이 나타났다. 넷째, 등장인물에 따라 다양한 콘텐츠들이 융·복합된 전개를 이루며 키치의 공감각성이 나타났다. 다섯째, 부정적인 관계에서 다시 사랑을 느끼기 시작하는 한량의 모습을 통해 키치의 중용성이 나타났다. 본 연구 결과 극형식 한량무에는 부적합성·누적성·쾌적성·공감각성·중용성으로 대표되는 키치 요소가 내재되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 한량무에 내재된 키치의 긍정적 가치를 활용하여 전통과 현대 예술의 매개체로서 대중들과의 소통을 시도한다면 한국전통무용을 대표할 새로운 문화아이콘이 탄생할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to reveal how the theatrical dance form, Hallyangmu of Korea is an exponent of kitsch and, as such, speaks to popular as well as to high art tastes, and remains vital to Korean culture. First, Hallyangmu’s deviation of image phenomenon leads to an inappropriateness of character-behavior, (the first of the five elements of kitsch as classified by Abraham Moller). Second, the accumulation of kitsch is revealed through the Hallyangmu after-party dance. Third, the comfort of kitsch appears in the perfume part. Fourth, various characters are fused, showing the synesthesia of kitsch. Fifth, the balance of kitsch is revealed through the appearance of the character, Hallyang, who starts to feel love again in a negative relationship. To sum, the elements of kitsch represented by inappropriateness, accumulation, comfort, synesthesia, and balance will be shown to be inherent in the theatrical dance form Hallyangmu. In this light, if we try to communicate with the public as a medium of traditional and modern art by using the positive value of kitsch inherent in Hallyangmu, it is expected that Korean traditional dance can be re-assessed to be a still-vital, cultural icon.
